Pete Returns to “Smallville”

Thought you’d seen the last of Clark’s best bud after he fled to his mom’s in Topeka to avoid getting beaten up again for knowing Clark’s secret? Wrong! Pete Ross is back this week, in “Hero,” when Kara and Jimmy go to a concert by the real-life band One Republic (who?) and Pete turns out to be one of the roadies. He unwittingly chews some Kryptonite-laced gum and develops super-powers. Clark and Chloe are chuffed to see him again but warn him to not use his powers in public.
That’s when nosy parker Lex, however, discovers Pete’s newfound abilities and blackmials him into helping him break into Lionel’s safe by threatening to blow Chloe’s m.o. as a “meteor freak.”
It will be great to have Pete back on the scene, but the storyline is so freakin’ lame!! He’s now a rock ‘n’ roll roadie? Chewing gum—that’s laced with Kryptonite? Puh-LEEZE!
How many times has the show had “regular folk” acquire superpowers? Most recently, it was Lana just a few episodes ago. And then there was the time that a loner guy at Smallville High got Clark’s powers via a lightning strike, leaving poor Clark one of us—mere mortals.
OK, whatever. Let us focus instead on the return of Pete AND the fact that the ep is not a rerun. (Photo courtesy of The CW.)
