CBS says “no” to more ‘Jericho’

March

UPDATED:

“The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale,” CBS said in a statement. “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We’re proud of everyone’s efforts.”

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that CBS has decided not to pick up a third season of Jericho.

Carol Barbee has said, in the past, that perhaps Jericho could find a home on a cable network (the Sci Fi Channel’s been airing re-runs), but this is what THR said:

The ending that will air Tuesday night doesn’t entirely slam the door on the series, but is different than the cliffhanger version, sources said. It also doesn’t preclude the possibility of “Jericho” finding a second life on cable, though the economics of the production will likely prevent a continuation of the show.

I’ll discuss this later. Sad now.

Amy I am totally bummed out by this news. Thanks for the update.

I have one word… MEH! So freakin’ sad.

CBS has no idea what they’ve thrown away. They are responsible for all of this. Other networks realize how important it is to get online numbers but not CBS. I’m through watching any shows. I am not going through this again. I hope Fox tops CBS for the next 100 years,

Tssssssss you know maybe I would not care too much if these 6 episodes so far were crappy and plain bad… but they were not, far from it.
I’m not sad, it just pisses me off.

I’ve lived and died by the ratings for years, so I braced myself beforehand for this decision (although I didn’t expect it today). I’m disappointed, but not devastated.

The second season has been extremely well done. It was well worth the fight to bring the show back. And there is still the possibility (albeit a slight one) that there may still be a third season—somewhere.

If there isn’t, my biggest regret may be that Heather and Jake never got to finish what they started in those early episodes. EMILY, GO HOME!

And here’s the punchline: After a special “CSI” airing on April 1, CBS will fill the Tuesday 10 PM timeslot (ET/PT) with something called “Secret Talents of the Stars.”

The saddest part of this is, I bet that show pulls higher ratings than “Jericho,” and that’ll be a damn shame.

I just couldn’t bring myself to comment yesterday (it was a bad day all the way around and Jericho was just the icing on the cake). I too am sad, but not surprised. I feel like CBS could have done more to promote the show (like putting Skeet on talk shows way before they did. Heck, they should have had him, Gerald McRaney and Lennie James doing the talk shows LAST season!) and we certainly got stuck in the worst time slot (though I honestly thought the writier’s strike was going to help us out there). I just feel like poor Jericho never really got the fair shake it deserved but I’m glad we got 7 more exciting episodes out of it! I’m going to miss the show if it’s not picked up elsewhere, but I’m forever greatful for the experience that fighting for the show brought me and especially for the wonderful people I’ve met on this journey that I wouldn’t have gotten to know otherwise.

I can’t believe it’s over, I guess I have to go back to reading books and the computer for past time. I can’t stand these reality shows and American Idol.I was given the first series co-workers got it for me for Christmas and will be getting the second one when it comes out. God for once they really had a decent show on tv. Made you feel good about your country and the people in it, that if anything like that were to happen in our country that the people would come together and learn to trust one another and fight for it. CBS I have only to say to you thank you for the second season but you have lost a great show and many viewers. I hope someone will pick it up on reg station as some fans do not have cable . I’m going to go crazy with out Jericho on tv now.
