Fingers crossed for Britney’s ‘Mother’ debut

I’ll admit it: I actually want Britney Spears to do well in tonight’s insanely publicized guest spot on “How I Met Your Mother” (8:30 p.m., CBS).
We all know how diabolically fun it was to watch Brit-Brit’s bizarro behavior. For awhile anyway.
Because once it became clear that her crazy antics were the actual mental-illness kind of crazy, it was all just really sad.
So now I’m one of many hoping for a true Britney comeback with her first acting gig since 2006’s “Will & Grace.”
And if these photos are any indication, she’s already on the right track: A competent hairstylist finally tamed those nasty extensions she’s been sporting since her shaved-head incident. (Or someone plopped a decent wig on the girl: Either way, bravo!)
Besides, whether Britney’s good or bad, there’s no WAY she can do any worse than her last TV appearance—that disastrous lip-syncing debacle at the MTV Music Awards.
Anyway, in case you’ve been hiking in the Himalayas for a month or two, here’s what you can expect to see of Ms. Spears in tonight’s episode:
She plays a receptionist named Abby, who becomes smitten with Ted (Josh Radnor) as he tries to date his beautiful dermatologist (Sarah Chalke of “Scrubs”). USA Today says Abby transforms from a plain Jane to a sex kitten. (She likely had no problem with that last part!)
Check it out for yourself to decide whether Britney lived up to the hype!
P.S. If you’ve got to have a piece of the pop star, her wardrobe from tonight’s show will be auctioned off to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group.
