Jericho: “Patriots and Tyrants” aftermath

Honestly, I’m not absolutely sure what to add to my thoughts from last night.
Given the fact that Jericho producers crammed an entire season’s worth of storyline into seven episodes, I thought they did a masterful job of wrapping it all up neatly enough that we wouldn’t have aneurysms if it did end up being the last episode ever. (Wanna know what would have given me an aneurysm? Check out the interview at TVGuide.com with Carol Barbee where she tells us what happened in the ending we didn’t see.) (Oh, and before I forget – give Brad Beyer some love in the poll over on the right-hand sidebar.)
It, however, also made me mourn the season that wasn’t. And I don’t mean Season 3. I mean a full Season 2.
We might have gotten to know Cheung, so when he was killed, it would hurt us.
We might have seen Chavez making his case to the Texans, biting our nails as he desperately tried to convince them to give Jake & Hawkins amnesty or to shoot down the ASA jets.
We might have seen Heather in jail for longer, with Beck visiting her upon occasion, still trying to convince himself he was right, but deep down knowing she was. (Side note: How awesome was it when she called him a coward!?)
We might have seen Beck in jail as his men had to be convinced to really look at the evidence.
We might have seen Trish truly join the Jericho resistance while still working for J&R, using her inside knowledge to help the Rangers plot out their moves.
We might have seen some of the actual arguments that Gray and others made to keep our Constitutional freedoms, rather than just hearing a summary by some guy in an elevator.
We might have seen New Bern’s true suffering, humanizing its residents a bit more.
We might have seen Johnston in a flashback.
We might have seen Gail Green for more than five minutes.
We might have seen.
We might have.
We might.
We.
I’m not going to take any more time berating anyone or any network for what might or might not have been done differently. It wasn’t and we can’t change that.
But you Rangers achieved something truly monumental and whatever happens from here on out, you all should be damn proud of yourselves.
Will we get a season 3 on The CW or Sci Fi? Still could happen. I’m not going to hold my breath. Hey, what do I know? Last time I figured it would never happen and guess what?
The other day, I posted Jane’s motivator, thanking the Jericho cast and crew for all they had done.
Today, I thank you, the Rangers.
(And thanks to Jane for the motivator; click on the image for a larger version.)
And come back Friday for Margie & Edna’s finale recap and the weekly Blackjack Fairgrounds Jericho Blog Carnival.

Us Rangers Amy.
I know what you mean about the could have beens. I do find it amazing however that they cast such great actors, like Cheung and The Modesto Bee reporter, that even though they are only on screen for minutes they are still believable.
Thank You.
A finer post for Jericho could not have been done. Thank you for remembering the Rangers, for thanking them.
I add my thanks and my love to them all, because of all of you guys, from here and across the world, we got a fantastic show. Because of the Rangers, we all got to make history!!!!!!!!
I appreciate the thanks too, Amy, though you are a Ranger as well, you know? You did your part to help keep the show alive by promoting and writing and digging. That makes you every bit as much of a Ranger as the rest of us, IMO.
Thanks for all you did too and I agree, it’s a shame that the characters and storylines for this season didn’t have more time to develop, but I think they did a Kick butt job with the amount of time and money they had…it was definitely better than nothing! “How does it feel to make history”? It feels awesome!!!
I agree that they did a nice job tying things up. The better news is how the storyline can be continued. “We started a war.” I was relieved to see Beck do the right thing, though frankly and officer worth his or her salt would have refused service to the “ASA” to begin with, but that doesn’t make the story as exciting.
Good article. I’m hoping Universal sees the value in rebroadcasting Jericho on Universal HD and continues it plus picks it up on Sci-Fi. I think the CW would be a big mistake.
On that note, I would encourage folks to visit http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?s=f91425d4eb004be720afdf5b16044183&showforum=29 which is the Universal HD forum for Jericho. That’s where the Rangers need to start working at getting things rolling.
And for goodness sakes, get an HD TV and HD service if you don’t have it.
Cheers! Dan
Amy I thank you and all the Rangers. Could not have fought with a finer group of people. Awestruck still from last night. Amazing the parallel between the show and the campaign. I want my Pool Guys back quickly and Beck too!!!
So, to seeing Season 3 soon…I raise a glass.
Cheers….
%!@#$ it Amy, you made me cry again! So many things we never got to see. Please, please we need so much more Jericho. Carol Barbee, work your magic.
What a lovely way to go out, Jericho. Here’s hoping there will be more, one way or another.
Amy, you made me a little sad with all that could have been for a FULL season two, but what we got was pretty awesome too.
