April Fools! OfficeTally not getting gobbled up by NBC after all

Am I the only one who feels a little bad that tanster isn’t going to be a millionaire?
Jennie Tan’s post earlier today that her OfficeTally.com fan site had been acquired by NBC Universal struck me as good news. She’d worked hard and earned such a pay day, even if it sacrificed the site’s independence somewhat (though I couldn’t see how that My Name Is Earl tie-in would work).

Still, I’m relieved to say it was all in good fun, as tanster revealed minutes ago.
Happy April 1st, everyone. And judging by the emotion of some of the comments, we just barely survived the day.![]()
THIS POST WAS AN APRIL FOOL’S DAY PRANK; NONE OF IT IS TRUE.A few little tidbits:
- I received word directly from The Office set that even some of the cast members believed the announcement!
- The post is listed at Wikipedia’s prank page.
- Read Remote Access’ coverage of the prank.
- I want to give a shout-out to the fine employees of DMI Racine who put together one heck of an NBC.com prank page, and to my friends at nbc.com, who reviewed my acquisition announcement to make sure it sounded realistic. (They suggested the delightful phrase “geo-filtered.â€)
And finally, to all of you Tallyheads who so passionately expressed your feelings about this announcement, thank you.![]()
We now resume our regularly scheduled programming.
The hoax garnered a whopping 774 comments—many of outrage and disappointment, some downright nasty—in just under 11 hours. That’s a comment every 50 seconds for half a day.
To be honest, NBC is crazy for not acquiring OfficeTally.
Is it lame to admit that I was kind of touched by the shout-out, by the way? Whatever. It’s good to have you back tanster.
