Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are sitting pretty, heading back for a third season with a Peabody Award in hand.
In all the banter about a possible Office spin-off, I didn’t want it to get lost in the shuffle that 30 Rock has hauled away more hardware.
NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman’s other favorite show won a Peabody Award today.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, the Peabodys honor the best in TV and electronic media. “30 Rock was honored for its ‘sly, gleeful satire of corporate media,’” the report states. A June 16 fete in New York is planned for the official announcement.
So what’s a Peabody worth? Well it’s good for the long-term security of a show that doesn’t boast ratings to match its raves.
Here’s what Silverman himself had to say about that today in announcing 30 Rock’s third season renewal, as reported by E!Online’s Kristin dos Santos…
Having personally lived through a 1.9 rating in the first season as executive producer on The Office, what’s clear with Tina [Fey] is she’s going through a perfect-storm moment in her career, and we’re confident she’s going to increase the show’s audience. Her [upcoming movies] give us another layer of confidence in this show. Between the Peabody win, the Emmy, the Golden Globe noms—and it makes us money because they’re very creative with the brand and the advertiser pays a premium to be a part of this comedy—we believe in 30 Rock.”
Now that’s the kind of thing that looks good on a performance evaluation.
