An extra hour of 'Lost' THIS season?!?

OK, calm down, deeeeeep breaths, Lost-philes.

It seems that TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello threw everyone in a tizzy when he posted this item about how “Lost” producers have asked ABC for an additional hour of air time before this season ends.

I was pretty skeptical, but then E!Online’s TV Diva, Kristin, chimed in earlier today to corroborate the story.

It seems that the show’s head honchos did indeed chat with ABC execs about the idea, but there’s no definite answer given yet.

Kristin says specifically that “Lost” wants to do a two-hour finale (YAY!). They’ve done that in the past, but the writers’ strike put the kibosh on what’s become a tradition.

Until now. Maybe.
See, here’s the problem, as Mikey A. also astutely observes: ABC is already promising viewers a May 22 blockbuster lineup of finales, with “Ugly Betty,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Lost” all currently saying their season sayonaras that night.

So a two-hour “Lost” would mess up that scenario.

Well, promises can be broken, right? Here’s what I propose:

Give “UB” and “GA” their sendoffs on May 22 as originally planned, and air a repeat of the previous week’s “Lost” (complete with pop-up teasers) after those episodes.

Then give “Lost” a two-hour block the following Thursday, on May 29. (You can fill in the 8-9 p.m. hour with one of those clip shows that you’re so fond of.)

It would be terrible to break the finale into two parts: I’m guessing that the reason the producers asked for the additional time is because they’re seeing how much they’ll have to cram into what I’m sure will be a mind-blower. (They haven’t failed us yet!)

It would be equally horrible to say no to the request for another hour: If the creators feel they can handle it, and fans are aching for it, then why not?

So come on, ABC, throw “Lost” fans a bone. Please, please, please, give us some more jungle love!!!
