Battlestar Galactica: Ties That Bind

April

I’m not even sure where to start with tonight’s episode.

I’d thought, going into it, that the Cylon civil war was going to be the big deal that was going to blow my mind.callie.jpg

And I’d even predicted, based on a sneak peek, that Tory was going to kill Callie.

But I still gasped out loud when Tory went all Cylon on Callie, knocking her across the launch tube like a rag doll.

Never saw that coming.

Tory is fully embracing her Cylonocity. Cylonness? Cylonism?

You could see that in the early part of the episode, where Tory was enjoying her ambrosia and hitting on Tyrol.

I’m sad to see Callie go. She’s been on BSG since the miniseries and she’s really evolved.

She started out pining after the Chief, jealous of Boomer. Heck, she killed Boomer and her hatred of Cylons has been about the strongest of anyone in the fleet.

She and the Chief were leaders of the resistance on New Caprica; she didn’t play as big a role because she was pregnant and then caring for their child (the second Cylon-human hybrid), but she was big into the resistance.

torytyrol.jpg

For her to discover her husband is a Cylon is utterly devastating. But her murder is even more devastating to the viewer, because we see that Tory is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the secret. And any doubts as to exactly how similar to the other skinjob Cylons these four hidden Cylons are was erased in that moment where Tory knocked Callie’s block off.

What this means for the future of the fleet and of the Cylons is anyone’s guess.

Which brings us back to the Cylon civil war.

The renegade Sharon, in love with Brother Cavil, is starting to have doubts about what they’re doing. Are they killing the entire line of Sixes, Sharons and Leobens?

Caprica Six will escape annihilation, as she’s in the fleet. Sharon will escape because Boomer’s Athena’s with Starbuck and creepy dancer Sharon is with Cavil. Is there a Leoben somewhere?

I find it terribly hard to believe that entire lines will be eliminated. This isn’t even boxing a consciousness; at least the D’Anna’s consciousness still exists. We know that D’Anna is still somewhere; after all, Lucy Lawless is in a few episodes still to air. Please let that start next week?

Did you suck in a lungful when the Sixes and Sharons realized their resurrection ship hadn’t made the jump?

And a last thought: Exactly what is Tom Zarek doing with Lee? I find it hard to believe that Zarek actually has Roslin’s best interests at heart.

And I had forgotten how angry Roslin was at Lee for the Baltar trial.

lee.jpg And now Lee is going to pay Roslin back for her snubbing him. If she’s not going to give him the time of day, he’s going to make her life hell.

It’s dangerous, however, to throw your lot in with Zarek. Even when Zarek’s right, which he is in this case. Roslin is trying to consolidate too much power into her own hands. She does have the best interests of the Colonials at heart, but she’s becoming too paranoid and sure that she’s the only one who can be right.

Such a great episode, as always! I didn’t expect to see the attack on the Cylons. I was about as surprised as Six! I just don’t get why Cavil is so against learning anything about the final five – unless his “line” somehow knows that it would uncover something about him that would be bad.

It’s weird how Tory has become so Cylon-cold. Was that always in her character, or has it really only come out now that she’s been “awakened”? The reason I ask is because Tigh had so much guilt about killing his wife. He didn’t do it as coldly as Tory did.

    Intriguing.

I had no idea how much I like Callie until Tory airlocked her. Damn, that was cold. And damn you Battlestar for making me feel! I cried like a baby.

First of all, Hurray! I’m finally all caught up and actually got to watch the episode last night! Woot! Anyway, I did know that Callie was going to die when she found out the truth, but I never saw it going down the way it did…Tory definitely embraced her cylonism.

Speaking of cylons, this is getting interesting!!! Definitely some of the sixes and Sharons will survive, but I don’t remember seeing a Leoben anywhere else… IT’s wild how they are evolving as well and getting free will and what not. It appears they didn’t get rid of everything in their programming that made their human counterparts after all. Their perfect world isn’t so perfect and simple anymore, now is it? Crazy!!!

Personally, I think that Tom Zarek might be the fifth cylon.I’ve ruled out Starbuck & Baltar (they want us to believe it’s one of those two, so it’s not, IMO), Laura Roslin (only because of the cancer, but there are moments when I wonder. I still think she’s a possibility) and both William and Lee Adama. That doesn’t leave too many other possibilities…

  4. Yvonne

Oh, I meant to say the cylons didn’t get rid of everything in their programming that makes their human counterparts Fallible (left this word out, sorry)

  5. Amy Vernon

yay, Yvonne! I’m so glad you’re caught up… Now you can obsess along with Erika and I. :-)

I don’t think Zarek is, but maybe that’s just because he’s the original Apollo and I can’t fathom my beloved Richard Hatch being a Cylon.

And Erika, I agree with you. Honestly, Callie had been annoying me lately (and by that, I mean since the last quarter or so of last season), but she’s been such an integral part of the show from Day 1. It really is crushing that she went the way she did.

    Tory. Is. Stone. Cold.

And Steph – I think that this has always been latent in Tory, but she’s embraced it now that she knows she’s not human. I can’t remember the specifics at the moment, but there were a couple of times, I believe, when she urged Roslin to do some pretty hard-core things; things Billy never would have backed her on. Wasn’t Tory the brains behind the idea to steal the election from Baltar?

Oh, and as for Cavil, I’m not sure why he’s so hardcore, too. Either he has something to hide, or he’s completely wired in on the programming that says they can never ever ever think of the final five. Probably the former…

For the life of me, I can’t settle on who I think is the last Cylon. I change my mind regularly, and it’s making me a little cukoo.

Welcome to the obsession, Yvonne. It’s just sooooo goooooooood.
