Reaper: Prequel to Rebellion

Reaper’s back tonight, finally, for another run of new episodes.
Here’s the description, which indicates the show may be moving in a new, darker, but still totally cool direction:
SAM PLANS TO TRAP THE DEVIL — Steve (guest star Michael Ian Black) and Tony (guest star Ken Marino) tell Sam (Bret Harrison) they want to exploit Sam’s relationship with the Devil (Ray Wise) to lure the Devil into a trap where the other demons can then destroy him. Ted (Donovan Stinson) asks Sock’s (Tyler Labine) permission to ask Josie (Valarie Rae Miller) out on a date. Thinking she’ll never say yes, Sock agrees, but when Josie agrees to go out with Ted, Sock decides to win her back. Missy Peregrym, Rick Gonzalez and Andrew Airlie also star. Kevin Dowling directed the episode written by Kevin Murphy & Craig DiGregorio.
Unless my short-term memory has completely crashed and burned, we never did get to see the episode planned to fit between “Unseen,” in which we met Steve and Tony, the gay demons who use power sanders to remove their horns (how often do you get to write a sentence like that?), and tonight’s “Rebellion.”
It was dubbed “Acid Queen” and was described thusly:
SOCK LOSES HIS NEW BEST FRIENDS — Sam (Bret Harrison) tells Sock (Tyler Labine) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez) they can’t be friends with Steve (guest star Michael Ian Black) and Tony (guest star Ken Marino) anymore, which leaves Sock depressed because he has become so used to having Steve and Tony take care of him. The escaped soul is a woman (guest star Emmanuelle Vaugier, “Smallvilleâ€) who is threatened by beautiful girls and has come back to kill all the women she feels are more beautiful than she is. Sam panics when he finds out the soul’s next victim is Andi (Missy Peregrym) and races to save her. Ray Wise, Valarie Rae Miller, Donavan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. James Head directed the episode written by Alan Cross (#113).
I’m thinking they decided to scrap it after the writer’s strike in the interest of moving things along a little faster. It would have been interesting, though, to see how Sam would try to save Andi without telling her what’s really going on.
Here are the descriptions for the final two two of the final episodes of the season:
“Coming to Grips,” which I assume will air April 29:
ANDI FINDS OUT ABOUT SAM’S DEAL WITH THE DEVIL — Sam (Bret Harrison) panics after Andi (Missy Peregrym) sees him beheading a demon and, believing he has killed someone in cold blood, threatens to go to the cops. Desperate to tell Andi the truth, Sam makes a deal with Devil (Ray Wise). Meanwhile, Ben (Rick Gonzalez) gets married under strange circumstances, and Tony (guest star Michael Ian Black) reappears in his true demon form. Tyler Labine, Valarie Rae Miller, Donovan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. Michael Grossman directed the episode written by Thomas Schnauz & Kevin Etten.
And “Greg Schmeg,” which I assume will air May 6:
ANDI’S EX-BOYFRIEND GREG RETURNS AND VOWS TO WIN HER BACK — Sam (Bret Harrison) is less than thrilled when Andi’s (Missy Peregrym) ex-boyfriend Greg (guest star Colby Johannson) reappears on the scene and asks Andi out on a date. To Sam’s shock and dismay, Andi accepts and decides to break up with Sam. Suspicious about Greg’s sudden power of persuasion, Sam investigates and discovers Greg has sold his soul to the Devil (Ray Wise) in order to win back his one true love. Tyler Labine, Rick Gonzalez, Valarie Rae Miller, Donovan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. Jeff Melaman directed the episode written by Chris Black and Jeff Vlaming.
And a little more Reaper goodness to make up for how lax I’ve been in giving Reaper some good, old-fashioned bloglove, even though I do love the dang show.
• Valarie Rae Miller has a Reaper blog on TVGuide.com. Her latest post discusses the bizarre and intense secrecy that surrounded her good friend Jessica Alba’s baby shower.
We were couriered invites (mine had to be Fedexed to Vancouver) with a “save the date” card – neither name of honoree nor location was given. This was done to avoid paparazzi leaks. We were not told the location of the party until the morning of the event.
• Tyler Labine talked with E!Online’s Kristin a few weeks back.
You might see a little rekindling between me and Josie. … Josie likes to “date down.†That’s the reason they’re together. Because I know on blogs or message boards, people are always like, “Why would she ever date that guy? Why would she ever go out with that guy?†[Laughs.] Yeah, people are not nice to me on the Internet! But I’m a professional. I can take it.
I promise to blog tonight or tomorrow about “Rebellion,” and to say something besides, “Ray Wise as Satan is the most perfect casting ever in the history of mankind.”
Even though it’s true.

Maybe it didn’t air in your area, but, yeah, “Acid Queen” definitely aired, because it’s still saved on my TiVo! It ended with Andi being involved in a car accident as a result of Sam saving her life, and he just basically shrugged it off as being something he couldn’t or wouldn’t discuss, but – FINALLY! – it’s clear that she’s not going to give up ‘til she finds out what’s going on.
Really, Will? Well, I’m thinking it somehow got preempted in the area here (NY suburbs), because I have it set up to automatically record on my DVR and it didn’t, and I was looking for it. And then the CW’s press site didn’t have any photos available for it (the only episode without pix!), so I figured they never aired it. I’m jealous!
Thanks for the info!
Sorry, Amy, I saw ‘Acid Queen’ too! It was good, and I remember being excited because Sam and Andi finally kissed (I am a sucker for romance).
This show just ges more and more adorable. I hope it makes it.
OK, now I know it aired in the NY area. Dang! I gotta check my DVR. If it’s on there, I plead Momnesia and family in town and child birthday and, well, just plain LAME-ness. I went to bed so early last night that I didn’t watch last night, either, so if it’s there, I’ve already informed my husband that I’m watching Reaper tonight, no matter what else he had planned, so neener-neener!

ACTRESS MISSY PEREGRYM TO APPEAR AT WIZARD WORLD CHICAGOShe’s been an illusion-casting temptress, an evil super genius and the girlfriend of Satan’s bounty hunter. With such a wide range of equally sexy and feisty characters to her name, it’s no wonder that Missy Peregrym has become one of the hottest young actresses in television today. Plus, after being ranked as one of Maxim magazine’s Hot 100, she has the stats to back it up. Peregrym can currently be seen on the cult favorite and critically acclaimed CW series “Reaper.†The show centers on the adventures and struggles of Sam Oliver after discovering on his 21st birthday that he is now a bounty hunter for the devil. In her role as Andi Prendergast, Sam’s friend and love interest, Peregrym has created a character as independent and confident as vulnerable and relatable. The down-to-earth role of Andi is quite a different turn for Peregrym who first grabbed the attention of the viewing audience with her role on the TV phenomenon, “Heroes.†As Candice Wilmer, an agent of the evil Company with the ability to alter people’s perception of reality, Peregrym became a breakout character and was featured prominently throughout the first season of the series. Her character even got a graphic novel produced detailing her origin. On “Smallville†and some accompanying webisodes, Peregrym portrayed the dangerous Molly Griggs who controlled people through subliminal messages in e-mails. With the teen comedy “Stick It,†Peregrym received her big break by landing the lead role as a rebellious gymnast. Critics praised her performance and the role started her on the career down its successful path.
