The Office preview: Did I Stutter?

May
1

I have to say, I’m a little nervous about where things are heading in The Office.

Between the spoilers, the officially released details from the network and the frantic online speculation, I’m not nearly as upbeat about the final three episodes as I figure I should be.

Who’s leaving? What’s the deal with Amy Ryan’s upcoming guest appearance? What’s Pam’s secret? Just how long has Jim been carrying that ring around, and when’s he finally going to pop the question? And what will Pam say when he does?

I worry about Dwight and Angela, because it’s just a better story when they’re together. I worry about Andy because I know Angela’s going to dump him if he doesn’t dump her first. Either way, a wall may get punched? Meanwhile, Michael’s still looking for love in all the wrong places.

Throw in Ryan’s drug habit, Kevin’s even-bleaker-than-before personal life and Jim’s slow evolution into the new Michael, not to mention Jan’s insanity and Toby’s run for the hills of Costa Rica in the wake of knee-gate, and what was raining from the ceilings is about to hit the fan.

I’m going to knock back a shot of hand sanitizer while you ponder the episode summary for tonight’s “Did I Stutter”.

When Stanley (Leslie David Baker) snaps at Michael (Steve Carell) during a meeting, Michael tries to give Stanley an attitude adjustment. Dwight (Rainn Wilson) decides to buy Andy’s (Ed Helms) car. Meanwhile, Pam (Jenna Fischer) deals with an unexpected inconvenience after spending the night at Jim’s (John Krasinski).

OK, I’m better now, except that TVGuide.com’s Michael Ausiello is intent on messing with Dunderheads’ heads. The Aus-man says it’s “kinda-sorta safe” to say Paul Lieberstien, who plays Toby, is leaving the show (presumably to to helm the planned Office spin-off).
But get this — that’s not the twist that prompted producers to turn the set into Fort Knox. Nooo. According to several well-placed birdies, whose decision to sing to me like the proverbial canary was clearly in breach of their confidentiality agreements, there are three even bigger plot twists that will profoundly impact Angela, Dwight, Andy, Jan, Toby, Michael, Jim and Pam. I will now possibly reveal what those three twists are among (or not) the following six options (Possible Major Spoiler Alert): an engagement, a death, an infidelity, a pregnancy, a fire and a coming-out. Let the wild speculation begin!

didistutter-meredith.JPGMy lame guesses: Angela gets pregnant by Dwight; Jim and Pam get engaged and Jan dies in a mule-related accident at the Grand Canyon, which she visits while staying with her sister.

I do like Ausiello’s take on Ryan’s role…

…I’m hearing that she’s playing Toby’s replacement, a pretty young thing with whom Michael becomes instantly enamored. And by “enamored” I mean horny.

didistutter-michael-office.JPGE!’s Kristin dos Santos says Lieberstein is staying with the show, but she doesn’t say whether that’s as actor or writer. I’m assuming it’s the latter, since that’s his main gig and the one I think he’s a whole lot better at. She’s saying it’s Michael Schur—aka, Cousin Mose, and the writer responsible for “The Alliance”, “Office Olympics” and “The Job”—who’s been tapped to lead the spin-off with showrunner Greg Daniels. She does dispel rumors of a Dwight-based spin-off.

Confused yet? No? Well GiveMeMyRemote is sure to leave your head spinning with angst and speculation as she ably breaks down what’s to come and what could be.
Oh, and Kate Flannery kind of mails in her weekly blog this week. She rocks anyway.
