The CW doesn't fear Reaper

May

OK, I’m totally lame for that headline, and it is the second time I’ve used a riff off that song title, but give me a break. You know how many times I heard “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” on 102.7 WNEW (it was classic rock way back in ye oldde dayes) when I was growing up? Neither do I, that’s how many.

Anyway, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it appears the buzz about Reaper has turned positive and there’s a good chance we might get more Sam & Andi, Sock & Ben and, of course, Ray Wise as Satan in the best casting choice ever.

Here’s what THR had to say:

The word on CW’s cult-favorite supernatural dramedy has turned unexpectedly positive. Though recent episodes have pulled about a 1.1 rating, the CW needs a suitable Thursday night partner for “Supernatural” as next season is expected to be the last for “Smallville.” Plus, after adding DVR use, “Reaper” ratings often climb a higher percentage than any other series, and CW executives are fond of the show.

At least someone’s looking at DVR use as a positive.

My only issue about moving it to Thursday is that I will now be utterly overloaded on that night. The Office, 30 Rock, Reaper and Lost (if ABC keeps it in the post-Gray’s timeslot). Not that I’m complaining there’s too many good shows on TV, but spread the wealth a little bit!  Look, I can only record one show and watch another at the same time. If all these shows end up in the 9 p.m. hour, I will officially freak out.

Officially.

Other than that, I’m happy as a clam with this news.

THR also said Boston Legal was a likely pickup, Shark is unlikely. The New Adventures of Old Christine is possible, How I Met Your Mother is “considered a given.” Eli Stone has poor ratings but is well-liked by the network. Women’s Murder Club’s chances hinge on Eli — if he gets a second chance, the ladies probably won’t. And, blessedly, Cashmere Mafia and October Road (the latter of which my husband inexpicably loved) are all but certain to never see the light of day again.

I too am thrilled that it looks like the CW will be giving Reaper another season, woohoo! As for the other shows, I like Women's Murder Club, but since it's coming down to it vs. Eli Stone, I've got to go with Eli Stone. I'm sorry to see Shark go (pretty good show) as well.
