The end is nigh

May
5

I was really bummed (though not at all surprised) when I read late last night that ABC was canceling the delightful Men in Trees.

Series creator Jenny Bicks told TVGuide.com’s Michael Ausiello that ABC let the ax fall last week.

Bicks believes, and just about everyone else on this planet agrees (myself included) that ABC is entirely at fault for MIT’s death.

Over two seasons, she pointed out, the show was moved SIX times and put on two long hiatuses.

Six times? That’s just insane. I knew it had been moved many times, but even I didn’t realize it had reached a full half-dozen.

At least Ausiello had some good news for long-suffering would-be Elmoites:

Bicks and her team prepared for Trees’ possible demise by shooting an alternate series-finale ending that will now be tacked onto the show’s last episode, which is slated to air this summer. Trees kicks off its final run of episodes on Wednesday, May 28.

So, what do you think will happen?

Will Marin dump Jack for Cash? Will Mai move back in with Buzz? Will Jane and Plow Guy live happily ever after in their bicoastal bliss? And perhaps most importantly (yes, this is MUCH bigger than the Jack/Marin/Cash plot, really), will Annie and Patrick find their way back to one another?

LeSigh… This is not a surprize, but it makes me sad. I thought this show had a few missteps, but ABC did it such a big disservice. Last year it was yanked early, with promises of a super extended season, and then when the strike happened, they held produced episodes when there was nothing on…. I really don't understand the thinking behind their choices. At least Ms. Bicks saw the writing on the wall and shot something to try and end the thing nicely.

I am really beginning to HATE networks and their stupid, stupid ideas.

I too am sad, because overall this is a really good show. I'm with Erika in that beginning to hate networks and their stupid decisions. It makes no sense to me that a network will give a show the green light only to do everything they can to make sure it fails. What's up with that?

Anyway, I don't see Marin leaving Jack for Cash. Yes, Cash is hot and if Jack were to do something really stupid, like cheat on Marin with his friend from the shipwreck, then maybe. Overall, I think Cash and Marin would have a fun "fling" if it happened, but Jack is more grounded and stable and I just think it would work better. Mai and Buzz will definitely get back together, IMO. Annie and Patrick are the big question, IMO. I just don't know (I'm not even sure I want them too anymore, because so much has changed). I hate to see it all end, but it will be interesting to see how it does!
