Britney's second turn on 'Mother' gets slammed

So critics and viewers alike seemed less than taken with Britney Spears’ second stint last night on “How I Met Your Mother,” unlike the widespread applause she got for her first go-round on the CBS sitcom.

TMZ.com said that Britney’s chest served as a  “distraction” from her acting skills.

Zap2It.com hopes “that’s the last we see of Britney on this show.”

Time’s James Poniewozik and People were a bit more kind, blaming the sitcom and the less-than-stellar script more than the pop star for seeming out of place.

I’ll give them that one. These episodes certainly weren’t the finest ones for “HIMYM,” which is usually fairly funny. Though as I’ve said before, Neil Patrick Harris as Barney is the show’s real draw.

But bad script or not, Britney still can’t act, and any attempt for the sitcom’s bosses to pretend that she can is just silly.

She’s a promotional ploy for a ratings-challenged show, and while plenty of others have done the same,  “HIMYM” went wrong by actually trying to create a subplot around Britney. They should have simply let her do a quick cameo—and sent her on her way.

Yet from the looks of the episode’s end—Barney gave her Ted’s home address and encouraged her to stalk him—the door is open for future appearances. The show’s co-creator, Craig Thomas, said as much in recent interviews.

Rats.

So what did you think of Brit-Brit’s latest acting gig? Was she not that bad, or should she stick to singing?

Whether she does that badly, too, is a whole different debate!
