Smallville's Lex Is Looney

The guy’s definitely gone overboard. The proof? He got out of bed to continue his Veritas and Traveler hunts despite the searing pain that all of those post-slashing chest stitches—at least 100—must have caused him. His emotional drive overcame his physical pain. (Even druggie Dr. Gregory House wouldn’t have enough Vicodin to quell that discomfort.)
Lex’s tenacious quest was the start of a “Smallville” episode that was riveting—and quite the opposite of some of this season’s other installments (like the dopey one with Pete). The very knowlegable Edward Teague, the only surviving member of Veritas, was a formidable foe. (”Teague” was the last name of Lana’s exboyfriend Jason? Coincidence? Perhaps.)
The sequence where Teague disabled Clark, laid him out on that slab and ran liquid krytonite through the slab’s perimeter was cool. Supe seemed surely doomed until good ol’ Chloe showed up. (Everyone should have a friend as loyal and smart as she is!)
Things are coming full circle, in that Lex’s saying in one of the show’s very first eps that Lionel had brought the mansion over, stone by stone, from the family homestead in Scotland. Ah hah! Daddy wanted to keep the mansion’s mantle and its nooks and crannies! And once Lex put that purple thing in the mantle and that big swirling bubble appeared, it was obvious we’re in for a bit-time season-ending cliffhanger this week. As “TV Guide” said, “Lex may finally have Clark’s number.”
This week, Brainiac returns to hurl one last attack against Clark. (Remember when I asked if Kara had truly killed Brainiac?) So the combo of Brainiac and Lex both going after CK will spell big trouble for the guy who dresses only in primary colors.
Where was Lana? Still in her catatonic state, I guess. Sorry, I don’t miss her. (Photo courtesy of The CW.)
