Remote Access readers want Butchie instead, pick 'John From Cincinnati' for feature-film treatment over 'Deadwood,' 'Sopranos'

In the spirit of the opening weekend of the “Sex and the City” movie, Remote Access asked readers which HBO series most deserves the next feature-film treatment.
So much for the Remote Access poll being a race between “Deadwood” and “The Sopranos.”
I suspect linkage and some campaigning were responsible for the sudden surge among devout “John from Cincinnati” fans—who evidently exist—thus propelling the one-season-and-out show from one vote on Wednesday to 167 votes this morning.
With 58 percent of all those cast, “JFC” soared ahead of “Deadwood,” which led the poll Wednesday with 47 votes (16 percent), followed by the 23 votes tallied for “The Sopranos” (8 percent).
To be fair, I didn’t hate “JFC” as much as I have conveyed in recent months; I liked the first three episodes and was a staunch defender of many of its cast members, especially Ed O’Neill, whom I described as “jaw-droppingly spectacular (and) equally adept at making the audience laugh and cry, often within the same scene.” Plus, it allowed for comebacks for Rebecca De Mornay (pictured) and Luke Perry, so that’s pretty cool.
But to give that show the movie green-light over “Deadwood” or “The Sopranos” makes me wonder if “John” fans really ever watched those other series—especially “Deadwood,” which had the benefit of not only the same creator and most cast members but also linear plots that made friggin’ sense by each season’s end.
“Carnivàle”—the third HBO show in the Top 4 that was canceled before the series had a chance to wrap things up—finished with eight votes. Two other series, “Entourage” and “Oz,” and a cruel suggestion for “None of the above” tied for fifth with seven votes.
“The Wire” grabbed six votes, followed by “Flight of the Conchords” with five.
Check out the rest of the poll results—and the latest Remote Access poll question—after the break.
“Rome” collected four votes. Earning two votes apiece were “Big Love,” a “Sex and the City” sequel, “Six Feet Under” and (ahem) “G-String Divas.” Perhaps Richard Lewis was the only one to vote for a “Curb Your Enthusiasm” movie.
Receiving no votes were “Da Ali G Show,” “Extras,” “In Treatment,” “Lucky Louie” and “Tell Me You Love Me.”
The new Remote Access poll is a simple one: Which series had the best season finale?
We’re starting you off with the fall and spring shows that Remote Access regularly covers and have come to a conclusion at this point, but feel free to add and vote on your own suggestions. We’ll keep this poll open for a couple of weeks, after which we’ll poll readers on the worst finale—perhaps resulting in “Lost” winning both polls.

As a JOHN fan who watch all three of the top shows in this poll my only regret is that I could not have voted for both Deadwood and JOHN. I think it's a shame that HBO canceled both shows before their time and both deserve to be wrapped up. Personally, I would even go as far as to say that HBO should do the Deadwood movies first since they were openly promised and then reneged on.
And, as for the "non-lineal" story lines in JOHN, that was one of the things that made the show for me, trying to figure out where it was going. This lead me to seek out people online whom I could discuss the show with… something I never did for any other show. This lead me to becoming part of a community of people who I count as my friends to this day. The power of community is one of the story lines in JOHN, so in this regard I think the show succeeded.
AND, I can't stress this enough, IF the show could have had even one more season or a movie then all these loose ends could have been drawn together and I am sure David Milch would have made sense of it all. There simply was not enough time.
Austin Nichols reported in a TV Guide interview this:
TVGuide.com: Do you know things – secrets about John, answers about his past – that we will now never be made privy to?
Nichols: "I know everything. I know everything about John. I actually spoke to David not too long ago and he said, Austin, don’t give up on this thing. I'm still trying to think of a way for the John tale to continue. So it's still in his mind."
And it is still on ours. We support HBO allowing Mr. Milch to complete all that he started… Deadwood and JOHN.
To the author of the above article(name nowhere visible):
I was a HUGE Sopranos fan. HUGE. I have the dvds. I watch it on sliced to smithereens on A&E & HBO's (unedited) reruns. The last episode and David Chase's boredum/disdain for the fans, not to mention his own quotes tell us he is not doing a movie or more episodes. Ever. Money was there, he moved on.
I also watched Deadwood but tiresome verbiage wore me out and yet another old west program, however well produced and true to period it was, just ain't enough to entertain me for 2 hours in a theatre.
I was lead into John From Cincinnati by watching the Sopranos. I was immediately tweaked and glued to the screen from episode 1. It was never well publicized then. Nor now. It was rerun back to back, 2 episodes per night with no adverts or notices of any kind. I was WAITING for that and missed episode 1 & 2 because I only stumbled upon it while surfing channels.
How did that series even get a fair chance? Yes it followed the most popular show but had not at all the same audience. There's some of us that enjoyed both but give JFC a fair go at it's own time slot & audience with LOTS OF PROMO.
There's a large community of JFC Fans and not one of us would miss a minute of any new episodes, we'd rival Rocky Horror in our frequency of viewing AND BUYING TICKETS to a JOHN FROM CINCINNATI FILM.
I WANT MY JFC !!!
I was an avid watcher of all three showes, but look at it this way. Sopranos would be just another Mafia movie with no real ending. Deadwood would be just another Western with the bad guys getting it in the end. However John would not be just another ET movie. It has a purpose, a message to convey we only need to allow the producers to tell it…
