The ‘World’s Best Boss’ isn’t going anywhere for a while

I’ll be back. And I am back. For goooooood.
So said Michal Scott, in a bad Kevin Nealon-as-Schwarzenegger accent, of his return to Scranton a while back.
And so said Steve Carell, whose managerial captaincy of the good ship Office is anything but nebulose.

If you read Ricky Gervais’s movie blog (for This Side of The Truth, featuring every actor in the universe), and I don’t often enough, you caught the tidbit over the weekend about Carell’s tenure with the American off-spring of Gervais’s creation. If not, here it is…
Had some great news today about the American version of The Office.Steve Carell (now one of the most bankable film stars in the world) has just signed up for another three years with us. He is the hardest working man in Hollywood and the harder he works the better it is for me. I mean… well done Steve you are wonderful.
I had to wear a beard for one day on This Side of The Truth and I hated every minute of it. Steve had to do months of that in Evan Almighty and I heard he didn’t complain once. He is a very nice man and deserves all his success. I am just as dedicated to my art without compromise but only between the hours of 9 and 3pm.
We are also working on a spinoff series of The American Office but I can’t tell you anything about that yet.
Dirty pool, old boy. You can’t throw a bone like that out there and not follow up. Well, I guess he can, actually. But the outlook for The Spinoff looks better and better.
Want to go one better? Well, Holly Flax is sticking around.
Now, I naively took this for a given after Wire-ite Amy Ryan’s character was introduced in the season finale, but it turned out her relationship with the show was about as solid as Holly’s and Michael’s.
It’s not three more seasons, but you can expect to see Ryan in at least five more episodes next season.
That’s according to Variety, which quotes the impressive Ryan as follows…
“I don’t know what they’re going to do with the character,” Ryan said, “but as it was written, there’s certainly a lot of potential. It’s a funny thing to enter a show that you’re a great fan of—and it’s nice to tell lighter stories. I love the dark, grittier side of life, but it’s nice to take a break from that, put a skirt on and brush your hair.”
Paul Lieberstien, who played Toby and now fills the role of showrunner as exec producer Greg Daniels takes over the impending spinoff, was as awed by her impact on the show as we all were.
“Amy gave the character of Holly an openness and matured innocence that exposed a new side of Michael,” he said. “She placed her character right on his level.”
Creed has a new blog up.

Did you catch the announcement of the Emmy pre-noms? That’s when the Academy of Television Arts & Science members vote for their favorite shows. Those votes are on their way to a Blue Ribbon panel, which will release the actual noms on July 17.
Whatever (Hello, confusing process). The point is The Office joins other semi-finalists Curb Your Enthusiasm (totally deserving), Entourage (not so much, not this season anyway), Family Guy (is that a joke?), Flight of the Conchords (if that’s what you’re into), Pushing Daisies (huh?), 30 Rock (shouldn’t have to lose in order for The Office to win), Two and a Half Men (Here comes lunch…), Ugly Betty (ugly nomination) and Weeds (nice).
In other news, I have not watched the clip below because I do not want to be spoiled for the launch of The Office Webisodes on July 10. In fact I don’t know anything about them, like exactly who’s in them or what they’ll be about. You can probably find out pretty easily. But don’t tell me. I do not want to know.
Watch if you want…
