Sitting ‘Idol’: Jennifer Hudson strikes while the iron has cooled and is no longer malleable

Oscar-winner and “American Idol” alumna Jennifer Hudson is set to release her debut album Sept. 30. Yawn.
The cover art is sleek and sexy, but this release would be far more exciting if it paralleled the release of “Dreamgirls,” or came on the heels of her Academy Award win for Best Actress in said movie. The more recent of those happened about a year and a half ago.
I’ll give her this, though: She has no shortage of star-power as far as album collaborators go. Just Jared reports that her first single, “Spotlight,” was written and produced by Ne-Yo and Stargate, adding that some of the rumored contributors include “Akon, R. Kelly, John Legend, Jack Splash, Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart, Robin Thicke, Timbaland, T-Pain, The Underdogs and Diane Warren.”
I’m not sold just yet. While some might cite Hudson’s role in the “Sex and the City” movie as relevant enough, that certainly doesn’t carry the same weight as a movie that prominently showcases her vocals or the critical acclaim inherent with most non-pity Oscars. Plus, while her over-the-top vocal style works for a movie-musical like “Dreamgirls,” it sometimes flopped on “Idol.” I’m not sure it translates to mainstream Top 40 formats these days.
In short, does anyone care about J-Hud’s album? That’s why we have a comments section, so please weigh in below.

The real question is, does anyone care “remote.lohudblogs.com” has to say about Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson?
Evidently you do if you felt compelled to leave a nasty comment.
