Oh, those sassy kids over at the CW.
Apparently, we’re all just SOOOO on the edge of our seats waiting for the Sept. 2 premiere of the new “90210”remake, they’re going to make us reporter folk actually WAIT to see it like everyone else.
Check out this statement that just zoomed into my in-box:
The CW and our studio partner CBS Paramount Network Television have made the strategic marketing decision not to screen “90210” for any media in advance of its premiere. We’re not hiding anything . . . simply keeping a lid on 90210 until 9.02, riding the curiosity and anticipation into premiere night, and letting all our constituents see it at the same time.
Harumph.
Well, I can’t say whether the CW is trying to hide a turkey of a show for as long as possible. Traditionally, when networks and studios don’t release a movie or TV show for review, it’s a total clunker. (Then again, CBS’s “Gary Unmarried” is a complete dud, in my opinion, and that network had no problem flinging Jay Mohr’s horrible show into my mailbox weeks and weeks ago.)
Given the rise of YouTube and other technology, I suppose it’s possible the CW is trying to avoid online leaks in the hopes of sky-high “90210” ratings (for the premiere, at least).
But I guess we won’t find out the truth until 9.02.
And by the way, CW? Cute marketing with that opening date…

It sounds like they’re protecting a turkey, but who knows?
For it’s part, Showtime recently granted my request for Weeds screeners, plopping episodes 4 through 8 on my desk today. I’m not sure what the marketing strategy is there, though, since epsiode 10 airs tonight.
