Baptism by fire: Kara DioGuardi joins NYC ‘Idol’ auditions, joshes with fellow judges

It didn’t take long for new “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi to dive into the experience.
Just a day after Fox announced her as the fourth “Idol” judge, the New Rochelle native joined Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul for some New York City auditions yesterday and posed for pictures for the first time in public with the rest of the show’s panel.
And, based on the quotes that this AP article generates, there appears to be immediate chemistry.
Some of my personal favorites, of course, come from Mr. Cowell. Among them:
“It’s like, you know, having dinner with three people for seven years, and getting quite bored of each other. So it’s having a fourth person, new opinion, I think it’s gonna be interesting.”
“Kara has a good reputation of A, having hits; and B, having an opinion. And that’s a good combination. And she’s cute.”
Cowell’s best barb came in response to an inquiry about how a show that’s already strapped for time will be able to include DioGuardi’s opinions:
“Paula will have to speak less.”
