From the camera’s perspective, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell have sat from left-to-right for most of the first seven seasons of “American Idol.”
So where did Kara DioGuardi sit in New York City when she joined the panel for her very first set of “Idol” auditions subjected to judges for Season 8?
Hint: It’s not where she is in this photo.
Well, in an exclusive phone interview with yours truly just before Labor Day weekend, DioGuardi revealed she’d be sitting … between Jackson and Abdul, with Cowell remaining at the table’s far right. There’d been some mystery about judge placement when Fox first announced news of DioGuardi’s hire, but she seemed content with her place in more ways than one when I asked her about her seating preference:
“You know at this point, I’m pretty much just like, ‘Where do you want me?’ I’m the new kid in school. I’m not going to cause waves right from the beginning.â€
To check out a bunch more Q&A with “Idol’s” newest judge—including her favorite “Idol” alumni and where she predicted she’d finish as a hypothetical contestant—check out my post on RA’s sister blog, Suburbarazzi. If you like what you learn, more fun stuff about DioGuardi will be chronicled in my full feature article, slated to be published in The Journal News in the week ahead.
