‘90210′ gets full season pick-up

September
23

Looks like everyone’s favorite ZIP code will be sticking around for awhile.

The CW’s president, Dawn Ostroff, announced that “90210” was picked up for a full season of episodes, calling the teen series part of the network’s plan to develop as “a destination for young women with shows that get our audience talking—and watching.” (She apparently feels that anyone who’s male or over 30 can pick up their Wiis and walkers and go elsewhere.)

So what does this mean for our band of newbies and old-timers?

Hopefully better scripts, since Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that longtime “Gilmore Girls” collaborator Rebecca Kirshner has been hired to oversee the show’s writers room.

And not a moment too soon, because Kelly’s baby daddy drama aside, the stories so far have been hackneyed and, let’s face it, super-lame. (See the infamous bowling episode for evidence.)

52259.jpgLet’s see, what else? At this very moment, I bet the show is frantically negotiating with Shannen Doherty (whose second to last episode is slated for tonight—boo!—in the sure-to-be-awful school musical episode) and Jennie Garth (who is saying that, right now, she’s not set to appear in more than six episodes).

Despite what the network wants everyone to believe, those gals are a major part of the series’ success: Ratings actually dipped for the episode where Shannen was absent.

Let’s also assume that much cash and begging will be involved to snag cameos by Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley and Luke Perry, who’ve all supposedly said “no” so far to reprising their old roles.

And maybe, just maybe, calls are going out to Gabrielle Carteris, Ian Ziering and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (excuse me, Tiffani Thiessen, like that makes her name ANY better).

As for the youngsters in the new cast, maybe another improvment will be that the old-timers can advise them a bit on overacting (yes, I’m talking to you, AnnaLynne McCord), undereating (Jessica Stroup and Shenae Grimes) and developing a massive ego (Grimes).

In the meantime, tune in tonight and check back here tomorrow for a fun-filled recap!
