‘90210′ news: Adrianna and Brenda in, Tabitha out!

Sigh. Those folks at “90210” just can’t seem to get it quite right.
Right after word went out that the show had thankfully begged and bartered with Shannen Doherty to return as bad news Brenda for two more episodes (starting Nov. 18, yay!), the news broke that Jessica Walter is being dumped as gin-swilling grandma Tabitha.
The reason for Walter’s departure? Money, says Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello.
A source tells him that it didn’t make sense to pay the hilarious “Arrested Development” grande dame so much dough when she’s barely on the show.
That certainly isn’t her fault, it’s “90210”’s for not utilizing her properly: Lots of fans agree that Walter is one of the best things about it, even if she only appears briefly. (Tabitha’s announcement that she was going to let her “freak flag fly” by swimming naked in her pool was the highlight of the last snorefest of an episode.)
Anyway, Tabitha won’t be gone for good. She’ll pop up once in awhile as a recurring character, basically whenever Walter has a hole in her schedule.
But proving that perhaps the folks who run “90210” aren’t completely clueless, Jessica Lowndes (who plays druggie Adrianna) got a promotion to a series regular.
Guess they’ve partially realized that they should highlight the characters that actually have a personality. And pairing them up, too!
Because it looks like Adrianna and Navid—another one who doesn’t have nearly enough screen time—might be getting together in the Oct. 27 homecoming episode.
Now that’s a couple I’m interested in. Annie and Ethan can go mope with their fake baby in a corner somewhere…
