With “Julie & Julia” opening today, you might be interested in knowing that PBS is dishing out Julia Child’s shows on its video portal at http://www.pbs.org/video.
With all do respect to Meryl Streep, I can’t imagine a greater impersonation of Julia than Dan Aykroyd’s on the old “Saturday Night Live,” and that’s because he hit on her essence: The chicken might’ve fallen on the floor. The saucepan may have slipped off the counter. But Julia sautéed on.
The result was a life excellently – though not perfectly — lived, with some good eats in the bargain.
