The "Smallville" Finale

May
28

(Yes, I know the show’s season finale was the week before last, but I’m hoping everyone will ignore that fact.)

The seventh-season close of our Superman-in-training series came with the obvious departures—or semi-departures, from what “TV Guide” and “EW” have said—of two main characters: Lex and Lana. Lex FINALLY found out Clark’s true status, as a Kryptonian-American, and was buried in the Fortress of Solitude. A fully recovered Lana left Clark a video message telling CK that she’s holding him back from his real mission on Earth and for him to not try to find her. With the departures of creators/executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, it will be interesting to see the direction the show takes without Clark’s main enemy and main love around. It’s now time to break out the cape and let the guy fly (as soon as he lets Kara teach him how to, that is)! smallville-finale-2.jpg

Brainiac suffered a high-voltage disintegration, so he won’t be back either. We will, however, get back Kara, who returned from the Phantom Zone after Brainiac was fried. But here’s the REALLY good news: Chloe! Allison Mack re-upped with the show for the next season. I can’t imagine “Smallville” without her. No word on the return of Erica Durance’s Lois Lane, but the intrepid reporter’s simmering attraction to CK (notice how tightly she hugged him after he saw Lana’s good-bye message) sets the stage for a likely return.

I was glad (for myself, not for her) that the Department of Domestic Security arrested Chloe. The will make it so she can’t marry dorko Jimmy in the near future. If I were her best friend, I would gently tell her that he doesn’t have the strong personality that someone like her needs. And if that didn’t make a dent, I would hope that she would come to her senses before she walked down the aisle. smallville-finale-3.jpg

This season had its ups and downs, with most eps straddling the line between them. A letter on the readers’ page of “EW” stated one of my sentiments: that the series featured way too little of Clark and way too much of Lex, Lana, Chloe and Jimmy. The writer said that Tom Welling was one of the show’s main attractions. I must agree with her. The good news is that with Lex and Lana gone, the show will HAVE to feature more of Tom Welling, and that, as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing.

Well, well, Tom Welling….

May
2

He done good last night, no? How does one go about directing himself? I’m no Steven Spielberg, but as far as I could tell, Tom did a darn good job of doing exactly that in last night’s episode, especially since he was in so many of the scenes. Perhaps we have another Ron Howard on our hands: from Opie Cunningham (as Eddie Murphy called him on “SNL”) to a big-time director?

smallville1.jpgThe romantic tension between Clark and Lois was so strong during the part of last night’s show when Jor-El had sent him to Earth during a time when he had never been born. OK, so maybe Clark wasn’t all that taken with Lois, but she sure was a smitten kitten. She obviously dug having him literally sweep her off her feet. As the Superman mythology goes, they will end up together anyway. Right now, as adversarial friends, they’re just going through a long—really long—courting ritual. But as they say, the best romances are friendships that caught fire.

Can’t tell you how bummed I was last night when Jonathan and Martha were on a cruise! How convenient! Acatually an in-the-know source told me that Annette O’Toole left the show on lukewarm terms, and John Schneider has obviously moved on to other projects, such as the porn guy on “Nip/Tuck.”

Is Brainiac REALLY dead? We didn’t see Kara kill him—such as smush him to pieces with that big rock or chop his head off and have it role down a gulley. I betcha a cuppa joe at The Talon that he’ll be back some day. As on daytime soap operas (witness the recent resurrection of Jesse on “All My Children”), he could very well return from the dead (even if he truly was killed by Kara).

Why was Lex wearing that silly all-white outfit as president of the United States? Was he trying to stand out from the previous presidents? His chrome dome would have been enough for that! And I think he would have been the youngest person ever elected U.S. president. I believe that the current record is 42. Lex is in his early 30s, tops.

The show ended up so much like “It’s a Wonderful Life”—”No, Clark, the world would NOT have been better off without you”—that I expected to hear a Christmas ornament bell ring and a little girl announcing, “Teacher says that every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.”

Next week, on “Quest,” Lex is attacked by a cloaked stranger who carves Kryptonian symbols into his chest that are messages for Clark. (Yowsa, that will hurt!) Also, Chloe and Clark find out that a member of Veritas is still alive and hiding out. That sets off a race between Clark and Lex to be the first to find the mysterious member, who holds the key to young Mr. Kent’s future.

There are only a few more episodes before Miles Millar and Al Gough are no longer helming the show. Things in Smallville should be interesting come the fall.

Lex Luthor, U.S. President?

May
1

A frightening thought, right? But that’s what happens tonight on “Smallville,” on the Tom Welling-directed episode “Apocalypse.” Fueled by his guilt over his belief that Smallville would have been better off without him and that he inadvertently caused of the deaths of Jonathan, Lionel and that Swann chick, Jor-El arranges for Clark to see what life in the little Kansas town would have been like had Clark never crash-landed there (kinda like an Kryptonian version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”)smallville.jpg

But before his vision (dream, whatever) Clark discovers that long ago Kara had sent messages from their home planet that indicated that Brainiac wanted to kill baby Kal-El, which would prevent Clark from existing in the future (kinda like Marty McFly and his siblings in “Back to the Future”).

The outcome? Lex is the president of the United States (Who’s his v.p., Donald Trump?), Kara was raised by the Luthors, Jonathan (yea! John Schneider returns!), Lana is happily married and Misses Lane and Sullivan are star newspaper reporters. And Jimmy? Probably the same dork but in a different line of work.

And speaking of the photog, last week he wanted to re-ignite the spark in his and Chloe’s romance. Oh, brother…. Despite the fact that Clark and his true love, Lana, are pretty solid (even though she is, at the moment, catatonic), if I were Chloe, I’d still be pining for the tall dark and handsome one. Short and pale Jimmy is about as sexy as a glass of water, especially when he thinks he’s James Bond. (And to think that in real-life he’s got an identical twin….)

April

Well, not quite, but FHM has its annual list of the 100 sexiest women of 2008, and at least 14 15 of them are familiar to our blog’s faithful readers:

83. Jenna Fischer (Pam, The Office)
73. Carrie Underwood (American Idol)
63. Grace Park (The Eights/Sharons, Battlestar Galactica)
49. Katherine Heigl (Dr. Isobel ‘Izzie’ Stevens, Grey’s Anatomy)
41. Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang, Smallville)
38. Katherine McPhee (American Idol)
37. Evangeline Lilly (Kate, Lost)

To "Smallville's" Lex: Get Thee To A Shrink

April
24

Due to circumstances beyond my control (I changed residences, the insouciant cable guy didn’t hook up everything properly, etc.), I couldn’t watch last week’s ep, called “Descent,” until last night.

And gee, Lex is one hurtin’ psycho. Killing his father via a 40-story window toss, doing away with the imaginary younger version of himself by throwing him in a fireplace, boo-hooing to Clark that Lionel loved Clark more…. Son, you are turning into the face of E-V-I-L! So now that Lex is totally hating on Clark, I shudder to think what he’ll impinge on Supe if he opens that secret box in Zurich.smallville.jpg

Meanwhile, Chloe must have a secret governmental clearance that’s pretty darn high if she was able to access just about every U.S.-owned satellite! But that chicken comes home to roost tonight. Read on.

This evening, on “Sleeper,” Clark continues his desperate search for Kara and Brainiac in an attempt to reverse Lana’s trance-like condition. Then, Clark asks Chloe to check for any large power serges in the area, so she breaks into several government computers, which sets off alarms. (So much for her having secret clearance! She’s just a run-of-the-mill hacker!) That results in Jimmy’s getting caught between the Department of Security—who theatens the shutterbug with time in the pokey unless he helps them arrest Chloe—and sicko Lex, who offers to instead help clear Chloe if Jimmy agrees to be in his debt. Now, THAT’S a situation that NO ONE would want to be in!

Remote Access readers say Jenna Fischer's the 'most crucial' supporting actor on TV

April
16

jenna.JPGA week and a half ago, Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on “The Office,” and Brad Beyer, who plays Stanley on “Jericho,” were deadlocked among Remote Access readers who voted in a poll to determine the supporting actor “most crucial” to his/her show.

After a tie of 171 votes apiece, Fischer broke away from Beyer and claimed the honor. She finished with 222 votes; Beyer claimed 203. (Photo of Jenna Fischer courtesy of NBC/Universal.)

sapoll1new.jpgLike last week’s results, actors from their shows also filled the poll’s next two slots: Rainn Wilson (92 votes), Dwight on “The Office,” and reader-submitted Skeet Ulrich (73 votes), Jake on “Jericho.” (I’d still contend that Ulrich is a lead actor, but it’s an interesting poll trend regardless.)

Rounding out the top 10 were Michael Emerson as Ben on “Lost” (43 votes); Robert Sean Leonard as Wilson on “House, M.D.” (36 votes); Tricia Helfer as Number Six on “Battlestar Galactica” (32 votes); Summer Glau as Cameron on “Terminator: The Sarah Conor Chronicles” (25 votes); Masi Oka as Hiro on “Heroes” (18 votes); and Allison Mack as Chloe on “Smallville” (17 votes).

Our new poll, in the right margin of this page, is all about elbow grease: Who is the hardest-working TV personality? We’ve even given you a few suggestions to get you started.

From “Lost” to “Cloverfield,” it seems like JJ Abrams is everywhere these days. “Daily Show” alumnus Steve Carell rocks “The Office” and is an A- or B-list movie star at this point. “Saturday Night Live” alumna Tina Fey is the MVP writer/producer/star of “30 Rock” and also has movie cred with “Mean Girls” and “Baby Mama.” Ryan Seacrest hosts “American Idol,” the Emmys, “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” his own radio show, E! newscasts, “American Top 40″ and pretty much everything that needs an emcee. And Oprah Winfrey’s talk show continues to rule and her presence extends into prime time, politics and international charity work.

As we like to do here at Remote Access, we’re giving you the option to submit your own nominations as well. So feel free to do so. Remember: We’re looking for people who got their start and/or are best known for their contribution to television. Movie stars making a TV cameo now and then shouldn’t count. Vote, vote, vote!

Check out the rest of the results of the supporting actor poll after the break.

"Smallville": Still no tights or flights

March
28

So yesterday I posted that it would be great if some humor was injected into Kara’s attempt to teach Clark how to fly. One of my scenarios was that they’d be in the barn’s loft during the lesson and it wouldn’t turn out well. He’s jump out fall flat on his face (though unhurt, of course). Well, it did indeed happen in the loft, but it was brief—just Kara trying to convince him that it’s easy to fly and that he should give it a try. But did they take it beyond that? No! Clark just chickened out—didn’t even give it a tiny try. Al Gough and Miles Millar missed that boat.brainiac.jpg

Lois is now trapped in a trance-like state, unable to communicate and suffering excruciating pain. Eeeesh! And you thought YOU had a bad day?! It was quite touching to see Clark get all emotional at the end of the ep, when he was talking to her, couldn’t bear it anymore and closed her clouded-over eyes. Then Chloe saw them and also got verklempt.

Is Lionel all bad, all good or somewhere in between? I think it’s somewhere in between. Was it he who had Patty Swann offed with a bullet to the brain? Or was it Lex, who was in the photo with the limo driver? Does Lionel truly feel like he’s carrying out Jor-El wishes after having been his Earthly emmisary? One thing I’m pretty sure of: It will be he who will be killed off on the April 24th installment. There have been just too many indications in the last few weeks. He’ll be the last of the Veritas four to die. And I hope that the show sends him out in a blaze of glory—one that Lionel—and actor John Glover— deserves.

Yea that Lois was around last night. I wish I had her chutzpah (and, by the way, her killer bod). Sorry, but I can always do without the wimpy, pasty-faced Jimmy. Then again, all the guys on the show look like chopped liver compared to Tom Welling. (And to top it off, the incessant ads for that new teen-scream flick, “The Ruins,” featured his identical twin, Shawn!)

And how about that Cottenelle toilet paper ad? That series of ads totally grosses me out and, of course, plays off that saying “Does a bear s*** in the woods?” Ha ha. The manufacture’s ad agency must think it’s clever. I think it’s yukky.

Including the April 24th show, there are five left to this season, with most of them running into May sweeps. Let us watch them with great zeal. It will be a looong summer, and, if past autumns are indications, “Smallville” won’t be back until the middle of October.

:-(

The Most-Recent and Upcoming "Smallville"

March
25

The episode that ran last Thursday was a vast improvement over the cookie-cutter one from the week before. And Tom Welling sure had it easy: He hardly had any lines to learn; he just had to do a good job of pretending to writhe in pain—just as I writhed in pain at the site of his—AGAIN!!!—freakin’ red shirt. OK, if he MUST wear a red shirt, don’t you think the wardrobe people could mix up the styles a bit? Like, if it has to be red, can’t it be a collared polo shirt? I’ve seen them in red— with my own eyes! My only hope is that the one from last week, which got so damaged by the kryptonite-laced electrode tasers, was the last one in his closet. The “Smallville” wardrobe department has it pretty dadgum easy when it comes to dressing Clark.50469.jpg

Moving along, that was cool that Chloe took Kara to the ice fortress and stood up to Jor-El. That Chloe, she’s got spunk—and I like spunk. Lionel showed that he still has an evil side when he put Clark in the cage. Granted, sadistic guard Pierce did all the hurtin’ on Clark after our boy was put in the krypto-cage, but still, to taser and kidnap Clark, and from his own barn, was rather unpleasant.

Thank goodness the ridiculous friendship, budding romance or whatever it was between Lex and a memory-challenged Kara is over. It’s unnatural and rather creepy seeing Lex acting so nicely to someone. You just KNOW he doesn’t mean it and has ulterior motives. What a shame that Patty Swann got snuffed at the end. Her background and knowledge about “the traveler” would have added an interesting facet to Clark’s life and the overall plot. Read more of this entry »

Tonight, on "Smallville"

March
20

This evening’s installment finds Lionel turning into a baddie again by having Clark kidnapped and holding him in a kryptonte-lined cell at a Luthorcorp facility. lionel.jpgChloe and Lana then find a military electric probe at the the Kent farm and confront Lionel, who then throws suspicion on Lex, who may, for once, not be the perpetrator.

On another mission, the girls take Cousin Kara to the Fortress (they’ve now got carte blanch to the place?) and beg Jor-El to restore her memory, because she’s the only who can save Clark.

Tonight’s ep sounds like a welcome departure from last week’s snore-fest. Also from last week, remember when Clark commented right after showering and that one thing Kara HADN’T forgeten was how to use up all the hot water. But he, being impervious to extreme temperatures, really wouldn’t care if he showers in water that’s hot or cold, no? And next week, it should be interesting—and amusing—to watch Kara try to teach Clark to fly.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's… 'Chuck's' Adam Baldwin?

March
17

adam-baldwin.jpgWell, yeah! Sort of.

Adam Baldwin, who plays my favorite character in FBI agent John Casey on “Chuck,” voices the lead role for 2007’s animated “Superman: Doomsday,” a loose interpretation of the Death of Superman trilogy.

Although I’ve always been partial to Marvel Comics, it’s almost impossible to dismiss DC Comics’ Superman and Batman. And while many correctly argue that Batman’s a more intriguing superhero because he has no superpowers and that “Batman Begins” was better than “Superman Returns,” I’ve of late preferred the Man of Steel. I think that decision was solidified when I became a newspaper reporter (Clark Kent, after all, is a scribe for the Daily Planet) and started watching “Smallville” on DVD a couple of years ago.

As a “Chuck” fan, I was curious when I saw Baldwin’s name in the Netflix synopsis for the direct-to-video “Doomsday”:

superman.jpgTo defend Earth, Superman (voiced by Adam Baldwin) battles an evil entity known as Doomsday. But the powerful being, created by Lex Luthor (James Marsters), proves too strong for the Man of Steel. Lois Lane (Anne Heche) joins the world in mourning the fallen superhero, but Luthor’s joy in his enemy’s demise is short-lived: Even death can’t stop Superman. This animated epic is based on DC Comics’ 1993 “The Death and Return of Superman” story arc.

I figured I’d stream just a couple of minutes of it on my computer—yes, Netflix allows you to do that with selected content legally—to hear him give a voice to Kal-El. Some 75 minutes later I had completed an above-average animated adventure. Read more of this entry »

The CW grants some early renewals

March
3

Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Supernatural, Everybody Hates Chris and America’s Next Top Model are a lock to return in the fall on The CW, the network announced today.

go1_047r-2.jpgot5_group_2_017horizontal-2.jpg

tm10_3_11_021-2.jpg

ec2-0512r-2.jpgsm04-0035-2.jpgsn2_0542rc1-2.jpg

Top Model was a no-brainer, as it’s the network’s most popular show. It’s getting not one, but two “cycles,” the 11th and 12th.

From there on out, it’s interesting how The CW described the other five shows.

Gossip Girl was “buzz-worthy” and a “freshman hit.” That and One Tree Hill (sixth season) are “the top-ranked shows on television with a concentration of women 18-34 viewers.” Well, then!

The two sci-fi shows were dubbed the “long-running Thursday night team” of Smallville (its 8th season) and Supernatural (its fourth).

Poor Everybody Loves Chris. It’s merely a “critically acclaimed comedy” (fourth season). (But its reruns did get picked up by Nick at Night.)

No word on how many shows each will get, but that’s good news for the actors and writers and everyone else associated with the six shows.

Will Reaper get a season 2? Aliens in America? One can hope. Aliens started its run of eight new episodes Sunday and Reaper gets its first new episode in months this next Thursday in Supernatural’s regular slot (up against Lost. Yeah, that’s good scheduling.) (Note, being of little brain, I snagged the wrong scheduling press release from The CW and thought I had the current week; Reaper is on this week, but it’s the one where he starts dating Cady, the final one before its long, horrible hiatus. Below are the descriptions for the next two new episodes, which start next week, not this. Sorry (and thanks!), Erika!)

Both have so much promise and intelligent humor. And besides, Ray Wise as Satan is just the best bit of casting, like, ever.

Here’s the info on the March 13 episode:

JAMIE KENNEDY GUEST STARS — Sam (Bret Harrison) tries to save an untalented musician (guest star Jamie Kennedy) from selling his soul to the Devil (Ray Wise) to become a rock star. Meanwhile, Sock (Tyler Labine) is stunned when his mother (guest star Marilyn Norry) returns from Las Vegas and announces she got married. He refuses to accept her new husband (guest star Henry Nah), so he moves in with Sam. Rick Gonzalez, Missy Peregrym, Valarie Rae Miller, Donavan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. James Head directed the episode written by James Eagan (#111).

Here’s the March 20 ep, “Unseen”:
SOCK CONVINCES SAM AND BEN TO MOVE IN WITH HIM — After his mom kicks him out of the house, Sock (Tyler Labine) convinces Sam (Bret Harrison) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez) to move with him to a condo. The three are overjoyed after they meet their new neighbors, Steve (guest star Michael Ian Black) and Tony (guest star Ken Marino), a gay couple who spoiled them with home-cooked meals and their favorite drinks. The guys become overly dependent on Steve and Tony and decide they are their new replacement parents. Strange things start happening whenever Sam is around Cady (guest star Jessica Stroup), reopening his suspicions that she is the Devil’s (Ray Wise) daughter. Missy Peregrym, Valarie Rae Miller, Donavan Stinson and Andrew Airlie also star. Michael Robison directed the episode written by Treena Hancock & Melissa Byer (#112).

And here’s the description of Sunday’s ep of Aliens, titled “Hunting”:

INTO THE WOODS — When the high school conducts career aptitude testing, Raja (Adhir Kalyan) is told he should become a doctor, but Justin (Dan Byrd) shows no aptitude for any particular career. Franny (Amy Pietz) and Gary (Scott Patterson) put so much pressure on Justin to choose a career path, that he escapes to the home of his buddy Dooley (Adam Rose), where he notices that Dooley’s father is a stay-at-home-dad. Justin’s announcement that he has found his calling and plans to stay home and nurture his future family convinces Gary that a “manly” hunting trip with the boys is in order. Unfortunately, Raja’s fascination with Gary’s crossbow results in an embarrassing accident. Meanwhile, the normally close mother/daughter relationship between Franny and Claire (Lindsey Shaw) turns combative and leads to a confrontation in a local nightclub. Daisy Mayer directed the episode written by Robia Rashid (#111).

And here’s the March 16 ep, titled “Community Theater”:
JUSTIN AND FRANNY STAR IN “RENT” — Franny’s (Amy Pietz) community theater group puts on a production of “Rent,” and when she can’t get Justin (Dan Byrd) to audition for a part, she convinces him to at least join the stage crew so they can have some quality mother/son time. When Justin meets the cute, artsy leading actress Zoe (guest star Larisa Oleynik), he auditions for the male lead and lands the part, giving him an excuse to spend time with Zoe. The two become inseparable, but the friendship is damaged when Zoe discovers that Justin has let his buddies believe that he and Zoe are having sex. Meanwhile, Claire (Lindsey Shaw) joins the teen hotline at school, but finds that she isn’t able to help anyone. Feeling bad for her, Raja (Adhir Kalyan) calls in using a fake name and an American accent and begins telling Claire his troubles. Michael Fresco directed the episode written by Sam Lyborune (#112).

And the March 23 ep, “One Hundred Thousand Miles”:
RAJA RUNS AWAY — The Tolchucks are set to fly to Vancouver for a family vacation, but when Raja (Adhir Kalyan) begins praying at the airport, the family is questioned and the trip is postponed. Feeling that the family resents him and has never understood him, Raja leaves the Tolchuck’s home and asks Mr. Matthews (Christopher B. Duncan) to place him with a new family. Guilt-ridden and frantic to find Raja, the Tolchucks turn to the local mosque, where Franny (Amy Pietz) and Claire (Lindsey Shaw) meet a Muslim mother (guest star Nimet Kanji) and teenage daughter (guest star Sunita Prasad) who are hosting a German exchange student (guest star Lars Anderson). Meanwhile, Gary (Scott Patterson) and Justin (Dan Byrd) set off in search of Raja and share a rare father/son bonding moment. Fred Savage directed the episode written by Richard Day (#113).

Yep, Fred “Wonder Years” Savage is directing. Hey, if anyone knows anything about playing the angst of youth, it’s him.

A "Smallville" Weak Link

February
19

50066.jpg

I though the most recent installment of “Smallville” wasn’t even close to being one of its best. We already knew that young Lex’s head was messed up by meanie Lionel (and even Lillian! I thought she was suppose to have been a nice mom!), which is why he’s such a scorpion now. So, really, what good did it do us viewers to have Clark invading his head?

As for CK and Lana’s waning relationship, didja notice how she gave him only a pitiful peck on the cheek right before he was to undergo the above procedure, which could have killed him? Read more of this entry »

CBS renews 11 series for the fall; The CW brings shows back, post-strike

February
18

The shows are: Cold Case, Criminal Minds, all three CSIs, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS, Numb3rs, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and Without a Trace. Reality fans? Never fear. CBS already gave Survivor and The Amazing Race nods for next season.

So what does that mean for fan favorite Moonlight, plus semi-veteran shows How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement and The New Adventures of Old Christine?

Basically, from what I can gather from around the blogosphere, it doesn’t mean anything good, but it doesn’t mean anything bad. In other words, “At this point, we don’t know.” (Bonus points to anyone who knows what movie that line is from and who spake it.)

Then, The CW also announced when it expects to bring its series back from their strike-induced hiatuses (hiati?), and how many more episodes they’ll have (NBC and CBS already did this, read their dates here.):

Splitsvilles on "Smallville"

February
8

Can you say “awkward”? That’s what Lana and Clark felt in last night’s ep when he joined her in the Kent farm kitchen and she said a stiff “Good morning” and he replied with a stilted “Hi.” clark-and-oliver.jpgThings got really unpleasant when Clark pointed out that she told Bizarro Clark (BC) that she loved him while, unbeknownst to her, the Real Clark (RC) was imprisoned in the Fortress. The “conversation” finally came to a head when she told RC that BC was more understanding and affectionate. Earth (or Krypton—take your pick) to Clark! As I mentioned last week, it’s time for him to loosen up, because Lana has shipped out, at least temporarily.

Elsewhere in the world of romance, Lois finally found out, courtesy of the Black Canary’s ridiculous screech, that Oliver is also the Green Arrow. Then, almost identical to what Margot Kidder’s Lois told Christopher Reeve’s Clark at the end of “Superman II,” Lois told Oliver that she could no longer date him because she didn’t want to share him with the rest of the world. Her father, the general, put the army before her, and she didn’t want to again be left behind in the life of someone she dearly loved. I hear ya, Lo. He’s always traveling and you would be spending every night wondering (i.e., worrying) where Oliver/The Green Arrow was.

Supernatural clips and news — this one's for you, Beth

January
30

Shunted aside in all the hoopla about Lost’s season premiere tomorrow night has been the fact that Supernatural returns with the first of four new episodes.

Now, I’ll be honest. I’ve never watched Supernatural, but it has a very loyal fanbase and it has always seemed to me to be one of those shows that I should like, but just have never gotten around to. With Beth (Lisibee of Jericho blogging fame) urging me to check it out, I have promised to rent Season 1 soon and do just that.

So with some news I scrounged up from the blogosphere about Supernatural, I thought I would share some clips Warner Brothers sent my way — two show clips, one a conversation with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

Here’s the first clip, from tomorrow night’s episode, “Malleus Maleficarum”:

The TV moments of the year

December
31

This is the time of year when “best of” lists, “biggest stories” lists and the like make up for the fact that most of this country is on vacation (if not physically, at least mentally) and it’s pretty dang hard for the news media to come up with enough copy (in print, online or to broadcast) every day.

But what about those moments in your favorite (or even not-so-favorite) shows that pretty much made you swallow your tongue with shock or fall off the sofa with laughter? What about those singular moments that just left you sitting where you were, long after the credits rolled, saying, “WTF?” And how about those moments that just made you mad.

Your friends here at Remote Access wracked our brains for the moments that most shocked, amused, confused and infuriated us over the past year.

With that, we present you with the following:

The Chief visits Smallville

December
28

Aaron Douglas, our beloved Chief Galen Tyrol/Cylon on Battlestar Galactica, soon will make an appearance on The CW’s Smallville.

tyrol.jpgBuddy TV reports that Douglas (who had a small role in a Season 1 Smallville episode, “Obscura,” as a police deputy) will be kidnapping Clark in episode 14, “Traveler.”

Though his role in the episode is still unconfirmed, it’s likely that Douglas will be playing the character of Pierce, who is basically the “freak of the week.” It seems like Pierce is a rather unbalanced guy, and one who fears aliens so much that he decides to kidnap Clark and keep him in a specially built prison.

I’ve never understood, though, how humans, who basically know nothing about Kryptonites (Kryptonians?), always seem to be able to build things that can hold Superman. My husband and son watch the animated series, and I never understand how often Superman seems to be captured. Color me puzzled.

2007’s final “Smallville

December
17

49742.jpgYa know, I knew from the very first scene that Clark seemed a bit odd in the most recent ep of “Smallville. I couldn’t pinpoint what was different about him, but at the end we found out that Clark wasn’t really Clark—and may be Milton Fine. That subtle change in Clark’s facial expressions and demeanor proves that Tom Welling is an actor to be respected and not just a pretty face. (Yes, he picks dopey features films, like “The Fog and “Cheaper by the Dozen, but he’ll pick something decent — or something decent will pick him — one of these days.) And I should have suspected that Clark was really someone else when he insisted that Lana continue her exposure of him. Had he really been Clark, he would have jumped with joy over the news that Lana was dropping her fixation.
