Gossip Girl season premiere recap: Reversals of Fortune

My, oh my, didn’t it seem like ALL of our favorite Upper East Siders hooked up over the summer?

Well, everyone except Dan. (Hey, his turn is coming after Georgina returns next week: Yes – whoops, my bad, SPOILER ALERT! – I said Dan and GEORGINA…)

And Eric and Jenny didn’t hook up either, it seems. Not with each other, of course – with anyone else. Although an Eric-Jenny mini-romance would be fun. (Note to GG writers: Have Eric give the straight life a try for an episode or two, just for kicks.)

Anyway, I digress. It was indeed the summer of smooching and more. (Stealing horses and carousing in the woods? Shame, shame, Carter and Serena.)

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel much passion about any of these relationships, even – GASP! – Chuck and Blair.

Yes, the two were still together, although the couple were trying to jazz up their brand-new relationship already by role-playing (a.k.a. Blair going psycho when she catches C. flirting with other girls). Not to sound like an old fuddy-duddy, but did anyone else find their new reindeer games a bit, well, sad? These kids are 18 and  have been going out for just three months, but they need to spice things up already? Then again, maybe they’re right, because I was a bit bored with their togetherness too – and I only had to watch them for an hour.

I can’t even remember a single decent quip from either of them last night, can you? Has monogamy sapped them of their snark? Sigh. We’re only one ep into Season Three, and already, I long for the game-playing, will-they-or-won’t-they days of old. Not good. However, I must say that Chuck’s sincere “I’m not Chuck Bass without you” was a bit of a heart-melter.

As for the rest of the gang, Nate was handed a mildly more interesting love life this season with the courtship of Bree Buckley, the daughter of his grandfather’s political rival. And seems like Gramps is going to use that somehow to bring down his conservative enemy: I’m guessing nude photos, aren’t you?

And jeez, can they give Nate a storyline that doesn’t involve a sex scandal? Oh, who am I kidding, like they’re going to squander Chase Crawford eye candy on some kind of, oh, I don’t know, let’s say, a term paper brouhaha at Columbia. Then again, I’m sure they’d figure out some way to feature Nate’s naked chest, even if the scene required a hazmat suit.

Gossip Girl: They’re baaack…

Is Manhattan society shaking in its boots?

Yes, the couture kids from Gossip Girl are back for a new season. But this time around – EEK! – they’re about to be college freshmen.

But first, let’s catch up on everyone’s sure-to-be-scandal-packed vacations, shall we?

Starting with what every GG fan is dying to know…is Bluck still together after a summer of love?

And yes, Blair and Chuck are BF + GF – awww! – even though they’re still adjusting that that official relationship status.

What else?

Chuck Bass switches sides on Gossip Girl

We all know Chuck Bass is a womanizer, womanizer, oh, a womanizer, baby.

(Giovanni Rufino / The CW)

But Entertainment Weekly was first to report that the Gossip Girl bad boy will be switching sides (temporarily) and kiss another man this season.

Michael Ausiello’s spies say that Chuck’s smoochy partner isn’t one of the show’s regular boy toys. It’s actor Neal Bledsoe, who’s guest starring as NYU’s head of freshman affairs. (Who knew there was such a thing?)

Blair’s involved in this sudden turn of events, naturally. Bledsoe’s gay character is in charge of picking a student to deliver an important speech and – surprise, surprise – Blair is willing to offer up her boyfriend to get the gig.

Oh, B. Will you ever learn?

Vanessa’s mom cast on ‘Gossip Girl’

The “Gossip Girl” gurus have been searching for an actress to play the mother of renegade (and virtually useless) Vanessa.

Now they’ve found her: New Rochelle’s Gina Torres.

<a href=”http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=gina torres&iid=4052502″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/1/d/e/5/PicImg_Essence_Luncheon_2009_150b.JPG?adImageId=2263470&imageId=4052502″ width=”234″ height=”351″  border=”0″ alt=”Essence Luncheon 2009″/></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js”></script>

TVGuide.com reports that V’s mommy, named Gabriela Abrams, will be the warm and fuzzy type, unlike many of her friends’ parents.

Yet V lives in Brooklyn and is working at Rufus’ gallery to pay the rent, while Mom resides “off the grid” in Vermont.

Doesn’t exactly sound like quality parenting to me…but that’s what makes “GG” so much fun!

If Torres looks familiar, that’s because she’s had recurring roles on “24,” “Firefly”  and “Alias.” She also played Cas opposite hubby Laurence Fishburne – now the star of “CSI” – in the Matrix sequels.

Fashion designers guest on ‘Gossip Girl’

Since “Gossip Girl” is one of the most stylin’ shows on the tube – and its stars routinely make red carpet best dressed lists  – it makes sense that the fashion world would be clamoring for cameos.

<a href=”http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=tory burch&iid=4851719″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/3/3/5/a/Celebrities_arrive_to_ee34.jpg?adImageId=2241924&imageId=4851719″ width=”234″ height=”322″  border=”0″ alt=”Celebrities arrive to the American Ballet Theatre Spring Gala dinner in NYC”/></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js”></script><a href=”http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=georgina chapman&iid=5599786″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/9/e/f/5/11th_Annual_DesignCare_bc4f.JPG?adImageId=2241946&imageId=5599786″ width=”234″ height=”351″  border=”0″ alt=”11th Annual DesignCare Benefit for the HollyRod Foundation”/></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js”></script>

So the Women’s Wear Daily report that fashion designers Tory Burch (top) and Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman will be making an appearance on the Oct. 5 episode of “GG” isn’t a huge surprise.

The two designers are the latest in a list of guest stars for the upcoming season, which kicks off on Sept. 14. Dreamy polo star Nacho Figueras has reportedly shot his scenes already, and it was recently announced that rockers Sonic Youth will drop by the show, too.

Getting excited about the new episodes, boys and girls? Until then, XOXO…

OMG! Sonic Youth to appear on ‘Gossip Girl’

It’s not like I didn’t love “Gossip Girl” before, but I’m now officially IN LOVE with this show.

Entertainment Weekly reports that one of my favorite bands from the ’80s and early ’90s – SONIC YOUTH – will perform on the upcoming season’s fifth episode. (Whee! Kim Gordon is a rock goddess…)

<a href=”http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=sonic youth&iid=4965888″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/7/e/8/a/The_Apple_Store_0078.jpg?adImageId=2214463&imageId=4965888″ width=”380″ height=”253″  border=”0″ alt=”The Apple Store Soho Presents – Live From Soho: Sonic Youth”/></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js”></script>

Turns out that showrunner Stephanie Savage is a huge fan of the band – and vice versa. I can’t really picture Kim and Thurston Moore hanging out watching “GG” with their 15-year-old daughter, but I guess stars really are just like us!

Anyway, a match made in heaven was made. The band will take part in a “very special event” involving Rufus and Lily.

And what will they be singing? An acoustic version of “Starpower” from their 1986 album, “EVOL.” (I’m a bit more partial to 1990’s “Kool Thing,” but let’s not be picky!)

Never heard the song, and want a sneak peek? Go here to check out a (rather blurry) video of the band doing that very song when it first came out, 23 YEARS AGO!

‘Gossip Girl’ Season 3 promos!

They’re baaaaack.

Well, almost.

It’s only a month until the gang from “Gossip Girl” returns for a third season on Sept. 14 (at a new time, 9 p.m.), and once again, the CW is rolling out a set of controversial promos.

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/nP1Fn-49Sz8&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/nP1Fn-49Sz8&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

Much like last year’s “OMFG” campaign, this season’s tagline is “WTF.”

Hey, it’s not what you’re thinking, potty-mouths! In this world, “WTF” stands for “Watch This Fall.” Get it? Oh, you clever, clever CW advertising staff!

Anyway, the real scoop is in the featured scenes, and it seems that life as we know it has gone topsy-turvy for our Upper East Siders.

Apparently, Dan Humphrey is now cool, and Blair Waldorf a loser?!? Serena’s been hooking up with Carter? Dan’s hooking up with Georgina? Nate has a new girlfriend? Chuck may or may not be cheating on Blair?

WTF, indeed!

Check out the extended promo above – but click below to see my personal favorite scene so far…

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/ij-bD6KltzY&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/ij-bD6KltzY&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

No headbands in college! I love it…

Tyra Banks set to be a ‘Gossip Girl’ diva

The CW will be doing a little cross-promoting this season, with “America’s Next Top Model” host Tyra Banks appearing on the Oct. 5 episode of “Gossip Girl.”

Sources tell E! Online that Tyra won’t be guest starring as herself; instead, she’ll play an uber-diva actress named Ursula.

This storyline seems to shed a little light on what Serena will be up to this season: It seems that S. will have a job as a publicist and she’s put in charge of handling Ursula at a movie premiere.

Gee, S., guess Brown and trying to find your long-lost daddy is on the back burner?

The season premiere of “GG” is Monday, Sept. 14, at 9 p.m. (Make note of that time change!)

Leighton Meester: Pop music’s newest star?

Apparently Little J. isn’t the only fledgling female pop star on “Gossip Girl.”

Now it seems that Leighton “Queen B.” Meester has a bona fide music career on her hands.

She’s enjoying her guest vocal appearance on Cobra Starship’s hit single, “Good Girls Go Bad,” currently No. 36 on Billboard’s Top 100.

Leighton stars in the video, too, which has a very “GG” vibe, wouldn’t you say? Check it out below…

<object width=”425″ height=”258″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kGqUYuMuGPQ&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kGqUYuMuGPQ&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”258″></embed></object>

And now she’s getting raves from fans via YouTube for “Body Control,” an electro-pop dance number that was recently leaked online. It’s from her debut album, scheduled for release in the fall.

We all know Blair Waldorf rules the Upper East Side. (“GG” returns for Season 3 on Sept. 14, by the way.)

Will her alter ego reign over the pop charts, too?

Hilary Duff becomes a ‘Gossip Girl’

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the former Lizzy McGuire is indeed joining the cast of “Gossip Girl” for multiple episodes next season.

<a href=”http://view.picapp.com/default.aspx?term=hilary duff&iid=4929034″ target=”_blank”><img src=”http://cdn.picapp.com/ftp/Images/8/0/a/5/Hilary_Duff_and_7d06.jpg?adImageId=1776569&imageId=4929034″ width=”234″ height=”361″  border=”0″ alt=”Hilary Duff and Marion Cotillard at the Bike In Style Challenge Winner Announcement and Awards Ceremony at LVMH Tower Magic Room in NYC”/></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.js”></script>

Duff will play a movie star who just wants to be a regular college girl at NYU. (Is Hollywood life really that hard?)

She’ll be Vanessa’s new roommate. (Sigh, I’d hoped V had disappeared somewhere along her Eastern European vacay with Nate..)

And according to E! Online, Duff also may be a possible love interest for Dan Humphrey. It seems that Mr. Clueless will have no idea she’s famous.

Will you be glad to see Ms. Duff leave La-La-Land for the Upper East Side? She’s expected to hit “GG” in its fourth episode, on Oct. 5.

‘Gossip Girl’ star on tour with band

It seems that Little J has quite the exciting summer vacation going on: Taylor Momsen of “Gossip Girl” is currently on tour with her band.

Momsen fronts The Pretty Reckless, which is the opening act for Australian pop-rock duo, The Veronicas.

And you know what?

As much as I wanted to slam Momsen for being yet another actress-turned-talentless-singer – and believe me, given how much I hated Little J and her raccoon eyes on “GG” last season, I REALLY wanted to trash her –  she’s actually not half-bad.

Especially given that she’s only 15.

Certainly better than anything Miley Cyrus is putting out. And dare I say it? Momsen reminded me a wee bit of a young Lita Ford.

Judge for yourself from this snippet of the band’s first-ever show last month at New York’s Annex:

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/llKgn3GWO44&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/llKgn3GWO44&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

And go here to check out a clip of their recent performance in Houston.

Little J isn’t the only one from “GG” trying out a music career.

Queen Bee Leighton Meester plans to release a debut album this fall, and Ed “Chuck Bass” Westwick is in the British band The Filthy Youth.

Go here to sample Meester supposedly singing “Bette Davis Eyes,” and check out Westwick’s punky stage presence here.

Now, who’s the best “GG” singer of them all?

“Gossip Girl” returns for Season 3 on Sept. 14.

The CW announces fall premiere dates

It’s like 1992 all over again!!!

The CW starts its fall season at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with the second season premiere of “90210,” followed by the launch of its other ’90s-teen-drama-stolen-from-FOX, “Melrose Place.”

That’s the exact same lineup the original shows had back in the day! Naturally, since “MP” was a “90210” spin-off. And I’m quite sure that if the CW programmed the 10 p.m. hour, “Models Inc.” – whoops! I mean,
“The Beautiful Life” – would be in that slot.

(I feel so nostalgic, like I should be wearing high-waisted jeans or baby-doll dresses. Wait, that’s actually back in style – perfect!)

Anyway, according to Variety, the rest of the CW’s premieres will roll out through the end of September, with few surprises.

The only semi-shock? The time slots of its Monday shows will flip-flop, putting “One Tree Hill” at 8 p.m. and “Gossip Girl” at 9.

Here’s the TV guide:

Tues., Sept 8

8 p.m.: “90210”

9 p.m.: “Melrose Place”

Wed., Sept. 9

8 p.m.-10 p.m. “America’s Top Model”

Thurs., Sept. 10

8 p.m.: “Vampire Diaries”

9 p.m. “Supernatural”

Mon., Sept. 14

8 p.m.: “One Tree Hill”

9 p.m.: “Gossip Girl”

Weds., Sept. 16

9 p.m.: “The Beautiful Life”

Fri., Sept. 25

8 p.m.: “Smallville”

‘Gossip Girl’ finale recap: ‘The Goodbye Gossip Girl’

Oh, S.

Did you really think you could bring down Gossip Girl with a few weak text messages?

Please. Let’s just say you’re not exactly the brains of the bunch. Didn’t you learn anything by how your Poppy Lifton plan blew up last week?

Yes, my friends, Gossip Girl threw our Upper East Siders into a graduation day tizzy in last night’s season finale, which marks most of the characters’ transition to college next year.

Her well-timed email blast labeled all of the major players, and her knowledge of all their secrets certainly seemed to imply that the sneaky, snarky blogger is indeed one of them.

Alas, we didn’t discover her (or his!) identity: Did you really think we would? And the kids won’t be escaping her scrutiny, either.

As GG announced, she’ll be keeping an eye on them all in college. Which makes no real sense at all, but hey, there’s no way the show is going to throw away its signature narrative device.

(Plus, it would put Kristen Bell out of a job, and that would be a tragedy.)

Anyway, this was an hour of action, as our boys and girls made their plans for the summer and beyond.

And of course, we can’t forget about the potentially shark-jumping moment when our beloved Mother Chucker declared his love for the Queen B…

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘Valley Girls’

This post is a wee bit late in coming – so pardonne-moi. (French just seems like the language to use when one is writing about “Gossip Girl,” no?)

But I did indeed watch Monday’s “GG” installment, the much-ballyhooed flashback to Lily’s past that producers hope will serve as the backdoor pilot for a series spin-off.

I’ve already reported that the young Lily spinoff isn’t a done deal at the CW, and I suspect that the network is waiting for audience reaction (which was mixed, no surprise) and ratings to make a determination.

My personal opinion? I was, um – insert a Lily-like pursing of the lips here – underwhelmed.

Is the ‘Gossip Girl’ spinoff happening or what?

The heads of “Gossip Girl” fans have just been spinning today with conflicting news over the fate of the proposed spinoff centered around a teenage Lily.

First, Nikki Finke’s Deadline News Daily reported that the Lily series had been officially canned, as the CW chooses new programs for its fall lineup.

Then E! Online got into the mix, citing sources who say that nothing’s been finalized yet.

As both of these outlets reported, the problem is that there’s three new shows fighting for two open slots, since “Privileged” is reportedly getting another shot and the “Melrose Place” update is an official go.

That means Lily is currently involved in a smackdown with Mischa Barton and some hot vampires.

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘The Wrath of Con’

I know Quentin Tarantino was (oddly) a recent guest mentor on “American Idol.” But when did the director sneak into the “Gossip Girl” writers’ room?

Because when Blair and Georgina started talking about Jesus and vengeance – with some choice quotes from Ezekiel 25:17, of course – I thought Samuel L. Jackson and his “Pulp Fiction” Jheri curls were going to pop out of B’s couture-filled closet.

Instead, that scene was when born-again Georgina began her descent back to the Dark Side, with lots of encouragement from the worst-crime-busting gang on the planet: Serena, Blair, Chuck and Nate. (And Nate was only along to provide eye candy and a reason to justify Chase Crawford’s paycheck.)

By the end, you all know what happened. Poppy Lifton absconded with Georgina’s bible camp money, and now G is pissed. So with a flick of her designer sunglasses and an imperious order to “follow that cab!” Georgina announced to Blair, “You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back.”

That line alone may have had the power to redeem this episode – if not Georgina – because otherwise, it was silly from beginning to end. SOMEONE had to take charge of Operation Revenge: Chuck and Blair were too distracted by each other to do their usual dastardly dirty work, and S. and N. are too dumb.

And who better than the old Georgina Sparks, who can be even badder than Blair when the Holy Spirit isn’t in residence.

Anyway, let’s take another look at the nonsense that ensued in last night’s episode, shall we?

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘Southern Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’

Okay, so why hasn’t anyone on “Gossip Girl” figured out that Serena might mean well, but Girlfriend has terrible judgment?

Gabriel’s a good guy? She trusts him? In my book, that would be the signal to run for the hills – not start investing the kids’ college tuition. (Rufus, what were you thinking?!?) After all, wasn’t S. all worried that she’d mistakenly married this guy in Spain, like, 10 minutes ago? So much for that trust factor.

Chuck and Blair would have served the Upper East Side better by staying at that cocktail party and hitting those socialites upside the head for listening to Gabriel’s nonsense about third world countries and Internet access, not traipsing into the wilds of Connecticut to find Georgina Sparks.

(And how dumb are these people, giving this fool money? Gabriel’s company will give free wireless Internet access to poor Africans? I think the folks there might be more concerned about access to clean water and decent medical care than not being able to Twitter.)

And wasn’t that “Chuck and Blair must find Georgina” storyline shoehorned in?

As Serena put it, “Butter, really?” That’s what Gabriel’s proof of guilt is going to be, that some Manhattan hotspot was closed on a certain night in question? As if the guy couldn’t just say, oops, I was drunk, I’m new in town, I thought that’s where we were partying?

But no, that wouldn’t give the show an excuse to bring back Miss Born-Again Sparks.

Although I have to admit that any excuse to throw Chuck and Blair together is a pretty good one…

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘Seder Anything’

If it weren’t the fact that this was a new episode of “GG” after a few months of tripping over repeats, I’d probably be pretty down on last night’s Seder-centric installment.

Aw, heck, let’s face it: It was a pretty boring hour, despite a few highlights from Cyrus, Dorota and an incredible Jenny-Chuck face-off. (With Little J unexpectedly coming out the winner!)

Rewinding on the Serena-Gabriel-Dan love triangle, did anyone seriously think that S. was married? Apparently, a bunch o’ bottles of Spanish wine, some skinnydipping and a church does not a marriage make.

Gabriel is positioned to be the show’s new dreamboat, but he’s a bit too bright and shiny for my taste. I’m suspicious of any man with brighter, blonder hair than my own.

However, speaking of hair, he is a big improvement over Serena’s last non-Humphrey boyfriend, the greasy-locked Aaron Rose (which also makes the fact that S. goes to Cyrus, Aaron’s dad, for advice about a quickie divorce a bit weird).

Anyway, there’s some odd moments when Dan pretends to be Serena’s boyfriend again, and not a cater waiter at Eleanor’s seder.

But oops, S. and G. aren’t actually married, so that frees them up to start smooching again.

Except Gabriel doesn’t appear to be through with Poppy Lifton, and the couple is clearly conspiring about something shady involving Serena. (And this was the only interesting Serena-related scene of the night, and she wasn’t even in it, which might tell you something.)

As for our other favorite love-ahs, Blair and Nate had a rocky evening, too. Blair was doing some conniving to get into the Van der Bilts’ good graces, although why she’s so gung-ho on being in Nate’s cousin’s wedding is beyond me.

And perhaps it was my satellite dish cutting out due to a rainstorm, or my supreme boredom with this plotline, but I didn’t understand why it was so important to Blair that Nate attend Yale. She’s not going there, so why does she care?

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘Remains of the J’

Oh, little J, little J, even when a party’s supposed to be all about you, it’s not, is it?

That gosh-darn bored Serena highjacked your Sweet 16 party and turned it into what looked like the most boring socialite soiree ever. Anyone else think that the rager staged by those party crashers seemed infinitely more interesting?

Seriously, if you were in a high schooler, wouldn’t you rather talk to the kid who went home without his pants than Poppy Lifton? (Although talking to Poppy might reveal where she bought that horrible fur vest she insisted on parading around in for most of the episode.)

Anyway, the party wasn’t even all about Serena. Not when it led to hookups among the Nate-Blair-Chuck-Vanessa quadrangle.

Oh. No. They. Didn’t.

Chuck actually got Vanessa into bed, though both agreed that their affair is simply a meaningless revenge fling to get back at Nate and Blair for rekindling their PG-rated relationship.

But Chuck didn’t look like his usual scheming self the morning after. He actually looked like he was, gulp, ENJOYING himself. (Sigh. Guess my hopes of ridding the show of the useless V. have been dashed.)

‘Gossip Girl’ recap: ‘Grandfather’

Ah, Nate Archibald – we missed you!

You can be forgiven for temporarily slumming in Brooklyn with the eternally boring Vanessa, now that you’ve returned – new and improved – to the Upper East Side and your Kennedy-esque family, the van der Bilts.

Got that? Nate’s family are van der Bilts, people, according to the CW.

Not Vanderbilts, in case any of you real-life gazillionaires with the same-sounding last name are deciding whether or not to sue the show.

Anyway, Nate was on the outs with Mom’s side of the family, since Grandpa seemed to abandon them during their “time of need,” a.k.a. those pesky little embezzlement charges against Nate’s dad.

But with a little encouragement from Vanessa, Dan and Nate’s pretentiously named cousin, Tripp, Nate agreed to go to the country for the ridiculously ostentatious van der Bilt reunion.

And a few backslaps and one family-crest encrusted blazer later, and Nate’s abandoning his summer plans to backpack through Eastern Europe with Vanessa for an internship in the mayor’s office.
